Halo 2 Graphics are nowhere near realistic, let alone "very realistic".

Halo 2 PC will not use DirectX10. The only reason why Halo 2 will only run on Vista will be because of its Multiplayer features.

Direct3D 7 is the greatest 3D programming API I have ever used. Direct3D 10's API's suck.

I think you'll find that Bungie were a multiplatform games studio before MS acquired them, they had even released a few of their pre-Halo titles (and spin-offs) for Windows prior the takeover, inc. Marathon 2, Myth 1, 2 and Oni (which they even made for PS2).

Halo was however launched at Macworld '99, but it was to originally be a multiplatform release and Bungie even had a working Windows version ready for journos to play at that launch.

Like, get informed man....

No,Halo 2 doesnt take advantage of DX10 Card.

Quote:
The system requirements for Halo 2 are a bit high considering the Xbox version ran on 2001-era hardware, though you've got to factor in the higher graphical resolutions and OS overhead in the PC version. However, they're fairly modest for a Windows Vista machine. You'll need a 2GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a decent DirectX 9 video card. The game will not use DirectX 10, so you won't need the latest video card to play it. However, you will most definitely need Windows Vista, because Halo 2 will only run on Windows Vista PCs. According to Clowes, that's because the game takes advantage of many Vista-only features, such as rapid install. When you first insert the Halo 2 disc into your PC, you won't have to install the game like you traditionally would a PC game. Instead, like a console game, Halo 2 will begin to load up and you can play immediately while it installs in the background. The PC version will also have support for Games for Windows Live, the PC version of the popular Xbox Live online service that allows for matchmaking, friend tracking, gamerscore, and much more.

Halo on Windows was a good port, just limited by PS2.0 shortened shader lengths vs XBOX's more capable shadercode caps and better use of alpha. I just completed it recently and can say that overall it looked great, especially in Widescreen (though the FOV is shortened) at 720P. Essentially when Halo came to Windows XP, our first gen PS2.0 and later gen PS1.4 GPUs just weren't up to the standards that Halo required - the game made use of more (and more complex) shaders than ever before.

Gears of War, being a U3Engine title is pretty much guaranteed to be ported to Windows already, going by the way things have gone with Epic(mega)Games in the past.

Now they're doing the same thing with Halo 2. There's no reason on God's green Earth Halo 2 couldn't work with XP. In fact, they probably had to hardcode the instructions in there to make it specifically not work with XP. All Halo has become is an advertising gimmick for Microsoft, it's barely even a game anymore. And now that Lionhead is being gobbled up by Microsoft we can expect the same out of Fable and Black and White.

Halo 2 doesn't use DX10. It uses DX9. However, they are using the Windows Anywhere service for online play, so you'll need Vista for that.

I know your post is a month old and this thread hasn't been updated in a week, but that's not true at all. I don't know what rock you've been living under, but Halo PC runs on 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP. I can even confirm it runs on 98SE because I had it installed on a 98SE machine. Just look at the back of the game's box if you don't believe me. There's even a Mac port, go figure!

The only reason they are making Halo 2 Vista-only is because they want to drive Vista sales. If you were Bill Gates or Robbie Bach you'd probably do the same thing (Good for them, bad for us). The success of this game alone has worked wonders, but I think Halo 2 is a little old to do Vista much good.

halo 2 isnt the driving force that will be the "vista game generation" .. I believe firmly that Unreal 2007, Gears of War, Hellgate London and a few others - to be what makes PC shine this year.

The online is supposedly just xbox live ported to vista, but I keep hearing that Halo 2 NEEDS vista for the online features? What kind of great things are they doing for the multiplayer that couldn't be handled on XP? I think the reviews of Halo 2 on vista will be lower than what it could have been on XP machines unless Nvidia and ATI get out some killer drivers soon..
