People have a life you know, emulation authors cant be devoting ALL their time to this work. There are more important things to them. Who knows if xbox emulation will wake up once again. It's not an easy system to emulate. Maybe they are going to suprise us and jump out and give us an emulator that can play Halo 2 at full speeds with no problems! Who knows...

Emulator authors have done amazing things, but I wouldn’t go that far.

Anyway, I don’t see the Xbox benefiting much from emulation on a PC. Anything you could do with an Xbox emulator is something you can do on Xbox now. Not to mention Hardware and software is at a very low price now, so if someone wanted to play Xbox now it’s extremely easy to find and purchase (some places even give it away free. You just have to invest a little time)

If someone is truly passionate about some type of Xbox emulation, they will show support it by purchasing the Xbox 360 Premium Package. Microsoft Corporation says it will need feed back from users to help perfect the backwards compatibility of its new system. (Become a tester if you have the time and earn money for it.)

I don't think many of the authors are really focusing on xbox emulation. Most of the xbox games I enjoy (Doom 3..Halo...Half-Life 2) I can play on my PC. In the "old-days" as you put it, I never saw Final Fantasy on the PC. Emulation sort of brought that into the mix, and it was fun because it was something we never really have seen before.

Who knows what they are doing. Xbox emulation might happen a bit more when the system begins to dwindle (like when the Xbox 360 comes out).

It took caustik a while to figure things out with xbox emulation.

thats missin the point most games that r on xbox r on ps2 now wouldn;t it be easier to emulate the xbox than the ps2 not saying that in a selfish way offcourse but as ur comparing pc games on xbox i can with ps2 games on xbox

Well, the xbox is much more powerful than the PS2 so it'd be even harder to emulate at full speed... even if it's running a modified version of DX 8.1....

plus emu authors have said emulating xbox is easier than maybe ps2 but still hard but more doable with good speed that is

Yes it's probably easier to emulate because like I said above it uses a modified version of DirectX 8.1 but fact remains that's it much more powerful than the PS2 / Reason for Turok, well there could be many reasons here are 2

1. Turok isn't exactly the most impressing game on the xbox and I doubt it uses the xbox resources to the fullest.
2. The author has probably focused to make this single game as fast as possible.

the xbox would need more power and be harder to emulate?

sorry but i totally agree with Katsuya, in all reality it is just a pc in a box, it uses an intel x86 processor, an nvidia graphics card n god knows what other pc hardware.

to be honest i doubt much actual emulation is needed for most of the system, granted you will need to convert some to make it more native due to the XBox's own executable format etc, but everything else will use x86 commands same as a pc.

but to be honest, any games on the xbox that are on the pc, are much better on the pc, only the crap titles on the xbox havent been released on the pc.

Well, most people don't think Halo 2 is crap ~_~ , and it's not just x86 in a box :P, As you can see above I wrote that it'd be easier to emulate because it uses a modified version of DirectX 8.1, and of course like you said it also uses a intel x86CPU. However it's still not just a PC in a box because the memory arcitecture for example is different.

We are all hoping...but caustik and _SF_ are probably working their hard asses off for an Xbox 360 .

Damn I wish I could play Halo 2 on my PC..but it'll probably never happen(Bungie has no plans for a Halo 2 PC). I could care less about any other game than Halo 2 being emulated.

So what? And the PC is much more powerful than both of them.
The interesting thing is the amount of overhead emulation creates, and that should be far less for xbox-emulation than for ps2-emulation (or every other emulator).

True, but still, xbox-games in an emulator would always run a lot faster than ps2-games for example.

He focused on this game to make it run at all, because as far as I know, it was the first game caustik was able to test with. That doesn't mean the emulator does any special optimizations for it.
Actually, I had a quick look at the emulator sourcecode. Obviously, its to complicated to understand in only a few minutes, but as far as I can tell, the only game where special actions are taken is Halo.

@Master Chief: Screw Halo 2! Gimme DoA 3 or Ultimate and I'll be happy.

Of course overhead is important, but if something is twice as powerful as something else, and creates half the amount of overhead... it's equally hard to get to run at the same speed :O

Yeah, but if something, lets call it x is like 50% more powerful than the other thing we are going to call p but creates only a fifth of the overhead, well, its not nearly as hard to get to run at the same speed.

Or to rephrase that: You made up those numbers yourself so your conclusion is completely baseless.
It's close to impossible to quantify the difference in power between PS2 and XBox or the amount of overhead, but I'm pretty sure my numbers are closer than yours.

Touché my statement was not meant as a conclusion but merely as an explanation to what I meant, even if the xbox creates much less overhead.. it's still hard to emulate at good speeds because it's faster. I'd very much like for someone to prove me wrong and write a fully working xbox emulator within a year, or two though
