This is how I got it working with ATI raddy 9700

This is how i got it running with ATI radeon 9700

First of all I heard it requires the right version of NTSC halo.
Lucky me, i got it running, this is the filesize of the correct XBE is 2 535 424 bytes.

second, you need to do your usual stuff to transfer the halo files to your pc hard drive. Any folder will do, i used just d:\games\halo ntsc.

next, you need to download DirectX 9.0 Software Development Kit (SDK) with DirectX 9.0b Runtime. Otherwise you would get just error message when trying to run XEON in software mode.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Be sure to checkbox it to be installed in debug mode.

Now you can go ahead and run XEON

and load default.xbe from your halo directory.

Check each and every checkbox in graphics options. This will make you run halo in software and wireframe mode. In this mode all the cache files will be written correctly and main menu will start but look kind of bad.

Now exit emulator. Run it again and uncheck all the graphics option checkboxes. You can now run halo main menu with full hardware acceleration with your radeon! (9500 or better at least)

If you want to go all the way to the game, you will have to restart emulator, navigate your way to starting the game in software, wireframe mode and once it has loaded, restart again, wipe out the checkboxes and run the halo in full hardware acceleration again! Well, don't expect too much. On my 9700 nonpro it runs very sluggish and texturing bugs are apparent but hey! It's a huge first step.

Very. Good job dude. My dusty hat goes off to you. So I guess it caches according to the graphics settings? Interesting...

I need a tutorial on how to use the dx9 debug. I'm retarded. I extracted it. There are a few compressed files and what not. What do I do?

Sorry. Forgot to edit.

1) D/l it
2)decompress it to desktop
3)Install
4) there is no '4'
5)goto control panel
6) look! a new button to play with! open the directX thinger
7) go through all the little tab thingers at the top, and whenever you see a retial/debug check box, well, you cant be that dumb...
8) do what ever it says
9) load xeon and look at all the pretty pictures...

The retail/debug select radio buttons are uneditable. They are "false", like they are grey and I can't do a damn thing with 'em. Why is this?

it lets you select either debug or retail when you install the sdk... otherwise i don't know how to change it. I'll try to come up with a screenshot, it seems it needs to be pretty small as an attachment. How small?

btw, I tried now changing back to retail mode and it stopped working. I only get window with corrupted graphics and then back to xeon screen. I got one screenshot saved, however. (and can change back to debug if required) I just need to get paint shop pro or something to make it smaller

Damn. Well, so much for that. Guess I'll just have to wait till xeon works correctly or cxbx does more than show a blank screen.

I think dx 9 sdk should work at least with full software emulated 3d modes no matter what the graphics adapter is.
