Um, running in software mode doesn't unpack the cache maps properly!

Hi _SF_,

just to let you know, I think you've done an awesome job, so please don't think I'm one of those "It should work perfectly, and when will it run this/that/etc!" Anyhow, a friend of mine made me a backup of Halo NTSC with his modded xbox, but he's on holidays now for the next 6 months(!) so I can't get access to the original cache files from the Xbox. I've tried running it in software mode first, and I get a D3D device error. Any help, _SF_ or anyone? I'll be a tester if that helps! I'm sure you get that a lot... My spec is Athlon 2600+XP, 896 Mb RAM, Geforce Ti 4600, 160 Gbs... Any debug info I can give you to help?

See the other thread about debugging. You probably need to download the debug runtime to get software mode enabled.

BTW, when you want to run other stuff, be sure to reactivate the retail runtime. The directx debug runtime is a LOT slower.

This is, honestly, confusing. There needs to be a manual on how to get halo to work. Whether it's cache files or software rendering, it seems like a lot of people need a tutorial. SF, or anyone, if you could do that, I would bow down to you.
