my friend got it to go about a minute ingame with his Geforce FX 5900U, but then it crashed. He says it ran around 20fps, which isn't too bad for his new P4 1.9ghz

...giving that it is in early development stages, 20fps is amazing

Re: Debugging request

How do I get the logs you need? I'm running both XP and 2K boxes and no luck on either one even with the debug dx stuff. Let me know and I'll post the info you need - tkx!

Basically it starts to run at 1 or 2 frames per second and then returns back to the emulator screen.

I am attaching my Xeon Log. This happens both in

2_SF_:

Being an owner of a Radeon 9500 Pro, I can confirm, that there are no compatibility problems with ATI cards. Halo runs fine on my system, about 50-55 fps in the menu and around 25 in-game.

Re: Debugging request

The former , menus work fine, though. Guess, I was a little too quick to say, there were NO glitches.

I am having the same problems as kcar and mr.saraiva with halo. Just a quick check, are you using PAL/NTSC halo?

Xeon loads up perfectly on my system with the DX9bDebug files. I started it with Software Rendering enabled using Software Vertex Processing. That was very very slow. So I restarted, let it go off hardware without any software options enabled. I averaged anywhere from 40-50fps in the menus. I restarted once again and set it to run at 800x600 w/Software Vertex Processing turned on only (which made a difference),because I now average 55-65fps in the menus, but it crashes when I try to start a game. I have Halo extracted to a folder on my HD with the same structure as the ISO format I guess. Is there any way to place the actual maps from the extracted folder into the Xeon "UtilityData" folder as cache???.map files and run it that way? Anyhow,it looks fantastic on my system and runs smooth (even with the window maximized).

If you turn on wireframe mode while using software rendering the game will run faster. I was getting 1 frame every 5 seconds without wireframe and 4 fps with wireframe. If you get to the opening video enough will be extracted to play the game in hardware mode.

Re: Debugging request

you only need to run in software the first time. you can run in D3D now, you have an ati 9800, so it should be nice for you...

Ok, I've installed the DX9 debug runtime and I'm finally able to run Xeon in software mode. (Wich is not available from the general directx distrib.)

Switching between debug and retail versions of Direct3D does not affect software rendering, wich is of course painfully slow. (Somewhat better with wireframe only, but you don't see much. )

When switching over to hardware rendering, the game will not start with retail Direct3D (window open then closes right away) but will work when debug mode is activated. I've included my Xeonlog.txt from the hw/retail run so you can take a lot at where it crashed. If you need any more info, just ask.

System specs:
Intel P4 / 2.40C
1 gb PC333 DDR SDRAM
Radeon 9500 Pro 128 mb (Catalyst 3.6)
Sound Blaster Audigy
Windows XP Pro
Attached Files
File Type: txt XeonLog.txt (10.6 KB, 33 views)

I do run it in hardware mode, but you have to start a new game in software mode first for it to unpack the needed files. If you run the game and just get to the menu, that is all you can run in hardware mode. It ran too slow in software mode to get past the menu, so I put it in wireframe mode and it ran fast enough to start the opening video. Which is all you need to be able to play the first part of the game in hardware mode.

Cool

Got it going! Thanks _SF_. Still had to run software first to get so far with hardware, but am I impressed! The DirectX9.0b debug did the biz.

My specs are

Athlon 2600+ XP (2.083 Ghz)
896 Mb DDR 333
160 Gbs
Pioneer DVD-R A03 (Slow, but grand!)
Nec 1100A DVD+R
GEforce Ti4600 128

If I can do any testing for ya, please let me know. I've access to a modded Xbox, so I can get the ISO images, but I never play consoles, can't handle the controllers - I'm a keyboard and mouse kinda guy. I reckon I'd be a good test case as I'm purely pc oriented Yeah, a plug, I know! Oh, and if you are taking requests for other games, how about "Medal of Honor: Frontline"? Dunno what XDK it uses, but still! The fact that it's console only would really rock to play it on my pc...
