Hmm? What happened to the post counts?

I was pretty sure Xeven and Gk1986 broke 2000 yesterday, but somehow they're back to below 2000.... I wonder what happened? Does anyone know?

Question

if a thread you posted in gets deleted your post count goes down? why does it do that?

Now that you mention it.... seems like everyone's post count dropped by a bit.... I know mine dropped... and as I look more closely, sxamiga's and Adair's (one before me and one after me, respectively) post counts also dropped.

because all your info is dynamic. if you change your title, it gets changed in all previous posts, etc. so if those posts dont exist anymore then they cant count towards your post count. but then again it could just be a hiccup from the server problems we have had recently

reminds me of the hunt for gold skulltulas in Zelda: Ocarina of Time . If it's a thread that got deleted, chances are it's a thread from the off topic forum.

A thread didn't get deleted, because otherwise I would have lost significantly more than the six posts or so I lost. It looks like the server died this afternoon and then rolled back to just before then with the post counts. What's strange is that all the new posts are still there, so I'm not sure when it happened.

My post count seems to be ok. So may be that I didnt posted in that time when the server was dead.

Right, and not right again though ... while the board is actually dynamic in building together several infos, it isn't in ALL cases - one of them is the exact user count.

In order to update that one, there's a so called "Update counters" option in our admin CP ... this one gets executed automaticly at a certain time every week (don't ask me which now, seems like it wasn't too long ago) and sets the post count to the exact number, which is in 99,9% of all cases the same or lower as the one displayed before. Reasons for threads to be lower than the actual count are deleted threads, moved threads also mess that up quite a bit, threads which are outdated (we move very, very old threads to another database as this one would slow down waaaaaaaaay too much otherwise) and much more.

Hope this clears things up and enjoy,
