Newsposters?!

What's up with the newsposters?

I can submit all the DC news I want, yet none of it makes it to the main page. This is somewhat pissing me off again, because I thought things were getting a bit better a couple of months ago. Can someone explain me why it is being ignored?

I have proposed in the admin board a newspost system similar to DriverHeaven, where everything is forum-based instead of the limited access to the AdminCP we have right now. That way, news posts can be done by regular members, and almost all admins/mods can put the news on the frontpage

honestly, I just don't have the time anymore

I hope things will work out that way. I don't think allowing everyone to add to the mainpage will work, we will also need to have some kind of format that everyone needs to use otherwise it will become a chaos. I do think it's a good idea to have more users being able to post news on the mainpage because at this moment it just isn't working out. I wouldn't mind helping out with it either, so if you'd need someone just let me know.

The current system is fine as well, but we would just need more newsposters, preferably some who can be online on a daily basis. At this moment I only see posts made by Chrono, Bobbi, CKemu and you. Are there any others who have the possibility to post there?

Chrono, I just hope that this feeling Sega-related emulation being ignored is unfounded

If you did it the way Kirby suggested you would just need to move posts from the news submission to the news forum and it would show up on the mainpage. Then you wouldn't have to worry about stuff showing up on the mainpage. Saves the time of repeating posts if they were to go with Kirby's suggestion.

You make it sound so easy, so why hasn't that been done yet?

Kinda like what is done at generalemu.be except with a seperate submission and frontpage forum?

but I have to come up with a way to label threads into different categories (for the mainpage post icons and the news filter) Is there a vB hack that can do such thing?

there are several things that aint gonna work.

First, about Keith remarks, posts made in the "News comments" section, don't magically appear on the frontpage. The CMS works that you create a news for NGEmu and it copies the post to Emuforums to make a Comments thread. What you see in that forum, isnt what the frontpage is displaying, its just a copy of the post.

Second, ok it would be fairly simple to convert it so that the frontpage displays the posts that are in the News Comments forum.... BUT....
You still need to manage the emus that are in NGEmu and yeah... its kinda complicated at first... (and still is :S, just today I found out I've been doing something bad from the beginning.... )
Aniway, Bobbi will have the final say in this. I dont see anything wrong with how it is right now (except the part that there is no one else "active" posting news). Right now, it would be useless to add more peeps since the CMS needs fixing .... and since Bobbi's back I'm hoping to have a chance to talk with him regarding some of the issues

Ohh and Cid. I have nothing against Sega >_< like I said, I havent posted much news the past week since I was busy. (I should post more again) If your talking about Chui's releases, I'm gonna post the latest one in a few mins and if your also talking about NullDC, well the authors requested not to officialy anounce the emu yet.

Guess that wraps it up

Heh, it's alright, sorry for sounding a bit harsh on the matter, but when I prefer to write down how I think about something. And I wasn't talking about NullDC, I cut myself in the fingers once with that N64 emulator being a prank, so I also have to be more careful with carrying news over from one place to another. Thanks for taking the things seriously

About that CMS problem, is that still the same thing as half a year ago? Even if it is, to me it seems better to have a few others added to it who are willing to deal with it, just to have a more steady flow of news on the mainpage. It's not like it isn't working at all, so if you and Kirby can post news, I don't see a reason why any other person can not do it either.

I do think it's about time to create a better system though :/ but this pretty much dampens any type of change soon:

<hiroko> Bobbi (~bobbi@p549E126F.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) was last seen quitting from #ngemu 26 days, 8 hours, 36 minutes ago stating ()

Will do so, if things won't change, having 2 new people on the crew might be a good temporary solution

I know how NGEmu works .. what I was saying if they were to go that direction it would be possible that way. I didn't say it would work with the current setup. Emulation64 is coded the same way where it uses my CMS to post the news to the forum from my news script. I personaly not a fan of doing it the other way .. posting to the forums and making it show up on the mainpage because of the limitations.

Won't it be an issue when a new version of PCSX2 comes out and a bijillion newbs post the news on the frontpage? Also there is the possibility that someone could post inappropriate content, spam, porn, etc. I think its really too dangerous to entrust this ability to the entire population.

Indeed, but I don't think it would be much of a problem if we keep the news submission board and entrust a larger deal of normal members with the news posting. I'm pretty sure that it would be possible to select individual members to give only them the persmission to do the newsposting.

And Vanit, have you thought of teh engrish!!!!11!!1

The admin could always create a "Newsposter" user group, and make a new forum that posts directly to the homepage, with the permissions set that only users in the newsposter user group can post in it.
