Yep I'm with you guys I'm going to uninstall the whatpulse after receiving this email from them.

Dear zman982,

The server the WhatPulse project is hosted on, is unfortunatly experiencing an outage of unknown length. We are working on it, possibly looking for another sponsor, but we can not say when it will be back up.

One thing we can guarantee, this won't be the end of WhatPulse, we will find a way to get it back online.

The forums are still online: http://forums.whatpulse.org

It could take a few days, please bear with us!

Kind regards,

wasted
WhatPulse project.
It sounds suspect to me so I'm done with it but it was fun.

It was down for a bit here, but I never got any email from them... It's back here now, nothing wrong or anything...
But I admit it's kinda suspicious.

Edit: Altough, the sigs aren't working now.

it's just the bounceme.net servers that are down. WhatPulse itself still is up and running

As for this downtime, I hope they work on their signature compression

I've actually been looking into GD/PHP and found some nice compression ideas, but when I considered the loads of whatpulse.bounceme, they just all fell apart. I guess they should consider ImageMagick or netpbm, they might have the right compression ideas needed for WP. On another note, they should lease a couple dedicated servers, perferably high-end. Or think of a way to spread it over multiple servers so they can purchase dirt-cheap shared hosting accounts. And if you want me too, i'll consider seeing if i could do this myself. Would probably be really hard however, seeing as I've never seen the codes before in my life (although i wish i could).

I know it was stated before but even if its not spyware its still logging your keystrokes right so can't they use it to figure out passwords or make statistics that they sell to companies?

well you type a lot of words, numbers, codes etc... I can't think that at a large frequency, they would be able to use it...

No. Maybe, but where can they figure out where you are typing your password? They can't. And besides, it just sits there and counts, it doesn't give a hoot about the keys your pressing. You press one, bingo, the client tells itself that a key has been hit and it updates to show the new number.

And i'm pretty sure wasted and crew wouldn't sell anything to companies, if they could, because they can't.

Well actualy i believe i have seen an option that shows you the most commonly pressed keys.
And yesterday i changed the AntiVirus software from Norton AV 2004 to Kaspersky AV and as soon as i ran the AV it detected some trojans in my system, after that i cant say that WhatPulse worked fine.
But it's just a wild guess, who knows.

By the way Kaspersky AV rocks.
