Signature Area Size

I have noticed the signature size area is starting to get out of control. Some people have up to 400 pixels worth of images and text in their signature and at times is up to 4 times the size of their post.

I think there should be a limit of 200 pixels for the signature area that includes both sig image and text and I think it should be enforced by the admins. 200 pixels is more then enough area for all your signature needs.

Please leave some input so we can get some change here. Thanks.

There is a limit, we just haven't been implamenting it lately. Since HTML code is enabled in the signature, people can link to an outside image (like your blog sig ) Some people have been abusing this, and if it persists, I think we can disable HTML for that user only

I have been removing big sigs when I see them, but I agree that its getting a bit out of hand.

It is not so much the images .. but the text that goes along with it. Some members here have like 200 to 300 pixels worth of text along with a sig images that is usually 100 to 150 pixels. Add these together and it is just too big.

hmmm true...
mines a bit big, ill try and make a smaller one later...
i like the flexibility the admins are giving us and i wouldnt want to see it all go away. I think somes sig that are 200 pix in heigth are ok as long as theres not alot of text...

I thought HTML code was disabled. When'd we enable it? I use BBCode for mine.

I agree, though. I have seen some EXTREMELY oversized signatures. Though, we can place a limit, it won't be enforced by the board. It will just be another thing for admins to keep their eyes out for.

I'm not sure if mine seems too big, but I've been feeling like a new signature lately.....maybe something smaller if I can make something nice with little vertical space.....

Yes, Keith is right, and other admins as well - the signatures got out of hand. I personally find it *very* disturbing to have sigs even with a height of 150 (not to talk about these 300 pixel monsters), as it actually disturbs me when reading through longer posts.

We'll establish a new rule very soon, and if users don't keep to it, we'll simply stop the usage of HTML and BBCode in the signature so you can only use the pre-made system.

bring me to the point of avatar sizes. I think it's a little sillt that only admins can have bigger ones... either everyone 100x100 or everyone 85x85 seems better to me...
and the size of that is debatable too. ngemu has about the smallerst avatar size (in kb) permitted of any forum I visit

It's pretty tall. There's alot of empty space you can get rid of in that image. Just shrink that girl's face, and everything should be fine

HTML was enabled for all forums for some reason, but FLaRe turned it off a short while ago.

For signature sizes, I think that people should keep text to size=-2, and should keep images to 150 pixels high (Yes, I am changing my sig soon). 25-30 KB maximum file size for a signature should be more than enough, even with some animation (Which is what avatars should be reserved for anyway).

For avatars, I would like to see 100x100. It's much easier to make a nice avatar with those extra 15 pixels on each side. 5-10 KB should be plenty file-size-wise for a 100x100 avatar, as long as there is no animation. With animation, 25-30+ KB size limit would be acceptable (I've seen some forums with 50 KB size limits on avatars because of animation, which I think is a smidgen too high. 40 KB is about all you'd ever need for any decent avatar that's been compressed at all).

Well I removed the useless comp specs from my sig. My sig image is 150pix high. Is this good everyone? I don't want to break any rules being a (good?) member here for some time.

56K guys can disable sigs and stuff from UserCP, and Admins can edit signitures if they are too large. I'd like to see 100x100 avatars as well and a larger filesize, since you can do much with the restrictions and no everybody has Photoshop to optimise avatars. Probably wishful thinking though.

i admit. i have an oversized sig pic. but, with minimal text, i actually have a fairly small "signature area". get what i mean?
