Searching through old threads?

I tried searching through old threads. So I plugged in 1 year ago and older in the search options. However, I came out empty whatever I put in.

So what I did was dig through the very first threads circa May 2001 and searched for them using the search option. No luck.

So does this mean the Search function only goes through at most a year ago?

You may not find what you're looking for, but selecting the box next to the date function lets you change from "and newer" to "and older." This lets you find older threads...but whether or not it gets the thread you are looking for is another question.

Last time I checked you couldn't get too far... the best way to get a very old thread is knowing who created it and access it from his/her Profile's list of created threads.

Hm... That's exactly what I did Ryos. Problem is, I don't remember who made the old threads anymore. Looks like I'll have to forego (sp?) digging them up for a later time. Thanks anyway.

I just go to the subforum of my choice and have it display threads back to a year or to the beginning. It's a crappy way of searching for threads but it works .

Yeah, you have to wade through 190+ pages. Fortunately, I can approximate the date of the threads I'm specifically looking for.

The point is that this problem began with the launch of NGEmu v2 and the new vBulletin version. Threads created BEFORE that date cannot be found anymore (that day you couldn't find ANYTHING). Dunno if it can be fixed...

Also if the search doesn't work and you decide to use the persons profile to search through their threads .. it only shows the last 500 posts. So finding the post you want can be a bit if a task.

Also the search problem was present before v2 and was also an issue on the older version of vB. Last I heard something happened to the search index in the database, but not sure on the exact problem or if it even was resolved.

You can find older threads complaining about the search engine if you look back in this forum for site feedback and questions
