I know that this is considered our home, but you have to grow a thick skin and ignore some things sometimes.

You have to agree that threads like that spice up the forums and are a source of info, if people derail and start with name calling just report them.

I personally like the more 'hands off' approach of modding, where a mod only takes action when things get really bad (flaming, hate, pornography, repetitive spamming, etc...).

I used to see many threads closed early because of mods overdoing it.

i think its alright for mods to be more lenient towards older members, just because the older members have seniority and they're what actually makes the forum.
(take away all the old members, and you have just a forum full of random newbies)

that's not to say that new members should be treated badly; and i'm also not saying that mods should have favorites.

but banning an old member for example, is a lot more severe than banning a new member.
since the old member has probably made friends here; and those friends would also be impacted by that member being banned.
a newer member OTOH has had less time to make friends, and therefore less people would care if they were banned.

we dont support that behavior or play "favorites". however i feel that in some cases having involved members sorting out a problem between themselves is more effective than having the staff force a resolution on the situation.

we could get involved in each and every case if we wanted to but to be honest, there are some times when what we would do only acts as a temporary fix and it does not actually solve the bigger problem and prevent the behavior from happening again. hell, sometimes it can backfire and make the situation even worse so i would not consider having the staff jump in every time to be the most effective way of dealing with these situations.

if you have a problem with a specific member it might help to sort out your differences in a private disc. (PM in other words) and attempt to come out with a solution on your own or just ignore them like i said before.

letting members sort their problems out between themselves does not mean we support flaming or that we pick favorites, it is just that sometimes direct involvement from the staff is not the best way to go about resolving these types of conflicts.

That being said, it shouldn't make them immune to bans either.

In a way, I do somewhat agree with Paratech. Things like this have been going on longer than most members posting in this thread have been around. TBH, since I don't post as much as I used to (at least not much outside of the Xbox forums), I don't really see this anymore. But back in 2004-05, it was rather frequent. The PS2 fanboys were allowed to say anything they wanted about Xbox users, but when vice versa happened, things turned into a flame war. This is one reason why I didn't want to get a PS2 back in those days (because I didn't want to join their cult-like mindsets). I still think Xbox1 is a better console by EVERY aspect, and back then when I wasn't afraid to say that in public (in or outside a PS2 related forum section), I got black listed. It's amazing, all the rumors and stuff that went on behind my back around here (reminds me of high school). Now I'm too old to care about nonsense like that anymore.

IMO, most of the new staff isn't like that... and I think they've all gotten used to me by now. Btw, I agree with Exodus. Even an older member can go crazy and be in need of a ban. Remember mudlord and JKKDARK? They never got much sympathy due to seniority. And since I have a history of being hated here, I doubt I would either.

It has been around since the appearance of Bulletin Boards.

It's not that I don't agree with Paratech, it's just that I think people shouldn't pay too much attention to those guys if they annoy them that much. Sure it can suck some times but it's the internet after all. If we would go around banning "long-time" members we would end up with just more drama, and more upset users. I don;t think there's a win-win situation.
I've kinda outgrown dealing with that stuff so I'm not as strict as I could be just for that fact.

Well Chrono I hope you like having multiple threads by the same troll bashing people who don't want to immediately buy Windows 7. I would think you would want better discussion than that, heck why even have rules if you don't want to enforce them?

Actually I'm drinking "gamer" Mountain Dew (Red) and playing my NES, although having to clean these freaking carts and such to play them on my NES is irritating me at the moment...

Still I got to spend 2-3 hours playing it today... I still need to clean 2 or 3 more carts that I want to play tonight...

No, I'm not doing any blow jobs on the carts!

Who ever this favorite person is, he got good points with every post posted. Not like he's forcing anyone to do something or agree with the pov. It's just plain facts =)

I'm ahead of the game, and just don't play NES. It works every time.

Insulting someones intelligence because said person is too ignorant and pompous to come up with real points is not going to get him any brownie points.

Its not the leniency that is the problem, it's the double standards.
