Current tags could be cleaned, with tagging available to only 3-4 starred people or higher, with abusers of the feature repeatedly suckerpunched.

I thought the tags were good as sometimes thread titles can be a little misleading so tags allow for the thread to show up in the propper searches.
It's a pity they were removed so quick.

People dared to spam the tags with insulting expressions. Personally, I'd prefer such people to be faced with heavy moderation actions rather than ruin the experience for everyone.
I'd dare say tag editing should be a privilege enabled for only the least irresponsible among members, with the tag viewing and the tag cloud usable by everyone.[/serious]

The tag cloud is still there, but not viewable or editable by normal members. Even the tags that caused the removal were not cleaned up (see the random thoughts thread in your subscriptions for example). Shame...

Well tags in the bin were obviously going to be abused...what good are tags in the bin if you can't search it anyways?

However for the rest of the forum I thought they were great and did not see too much missuse...

There were no issues other than less than responsible edits. Maybe deliberate tag poisoning should have a new infraction set for it...

Just marking bin threads with ONE exclusive tag - either "THE BIN" or "BIN" - is more than appropriate, to mark good bin threads.

Yes. I agree. the tags were lots of fun in the bin, and had lots of potential in the rest of the fora.
