The "My Blog" section is only displayed if you are logged on as the owner of the blog.

Re: My Blogging System

I mean the panel at the side with administrative options which is entitled "My Blog". If the blog is not yours, or you are not logged in then everything else is displayed.

Re: My Blogging System

Yeah I will. Just need to implement the reply system and add options to edit/delete posts. I'll upload the Perl source code when finished. It's not of any use yet.

Re: My Blogging System

Next update:

Can now view replys, post replys, delete replys, make posts, delete posts. Also I modified the main blog a little to allow for custom link sections on the right.

Still need to add editing of posts, adding of link sections, adding of links and need to do the profile feature.

Re: My Blogging System

Not at the moment but could be an upcoming feature. I was thinking of adding support for integration with Invision Power Board and phpBB.

Re: My Blogging System

Well I've never used either Invision Power Board or phpBB. But I installed PHP and Invision on my machine today and it should be easy to read the user id/username/password fields straight from Invision's database. But that isn't really a priority now. I'll get it finished first before adding features such as that.

Re: My Blogging System

You seem to think that Perl is inferior to PHP?

Re: My Blogging System

Perl is differant to PHP. Unlike PHP, Perl is not only limited to web-based programming. I don't only use Perl for web-based applications. As far as I'm aware, PHP and mod_perl(persistant Apache Perl interpreter) operate at comparable speeds.

On a side note, does anyone know where I can get some good (preferably public domain) smilies?

Re: My Blogging System

About skinning, my blogging system now uses the excellent HTML::Template module which allows the resulting HTML to be stored and templated from a file external to the script. These template files are 99% HTML and contain a few extra tags for filling in values.

Re: My Blogging System

UPDATE: Over the past two days I've been converting my system to use the excellent CGI::Application and HTML::Template Perl modules. The conversion is nearly complete and the results are looking promising. The most exciting part is that custom HTML templates are now supported.

If you want more information about how the HTML::Template system works, visit:
http://html-template.sourceforge.net/article.html

NOW CONTAINS: 421 lines of code (excluding HTML)

Are the gif emoticons on this site availible free of charge as I have seen them for download on sombody's website:
