Game Maker 5.0 - Have you tried it?
Hey guys, have you tried this software? It's GREAT! It's like a Visual Game Maker for Windows.
- you can make pacman without going into programming details, just click and drag!Gamer Maker Homepage I've seen some fans making Sonic type games and I'm impressed. It's freeware and the game engine environment even supports network based gaming! Best of all you can compile the program into an executable one and distribute it commercially or not.

It's available on the website. There are lots of games, some standalone like this one and others editable (like a Gradius clone, a mario type clone, a megaman inspired game, etc, but they're all freeware and the drawings were done by the fans). These sample games show how to program game make to do such projects. |

Gamemaker is a very nice and robust program. If you are looking into the RPG field of amature game development, I'd have to suggest Sphere(http://sphere.sf.net). Sphere's Scriping engine uses a modified version of Mozilla's Spidermokey Javascript renderer(Think Object-Oriented Javascript). It is a lot more powerful than gamemaker, albeit, a tad harder to learn, but with a little patience you can be making your very own distributable games
One team I know is making a game inspired by a fanfiction in the FF4-world. http://ff4-2.rpgone.com/ They re making great progress so far, there should be more info in the weeks to come. Last edited by Shavedrabbit; July 27th, 2003 at 01:32. |

shavedrabbit > even though it's highly pixelated and not even near realistic looking; we rather not have avatars like that here, so it would be nice if you'd change that. Thanks.

Re: Game Maker 5.0 - Have you tried it?
Gamemaker is harder than RPG Maker though. I love RPG Maker. Too bad its Japanese only in 2003.

The standard edition costs $49. The professional edition costs $499. For the price (game maker is free and if you like, you can register to help the author improve the software for $15), and features, game maker is hard to beat. |
