I just don't understand the cheat system

Yes, I'm having trouble, not technical but mental , with using gameshark cheats.

All I want to do is use a few for pokemon and sonic, yet I just don't understand at all what to do. I look everywhere but I don't get it.

If anyone can please explain clearly, I greatly thank you.

Oh and uh.....look at 2nd post below this one.

I did a test a while ago. I have both a PC and a macbook. Codes don't work with the OSX version of VBA. You are out of luck. Sorry.

Angry Lines of code for VBA

A LOT of the gameshark codes have multiple lines of code, I tried to put them all in, but 3 Error Messages popped up saying that they were wrong, and that the "supported formats are: XXXXXXXX:YY, XXXXXXXX:YYYY, and XXXXXXXX:YYYYYYYY."

Help!

You can also use the search function .
You just have you convert the initial value to hex and search, then use change the targeted address to the value you want in hex. That way you don't need the gameshark code

for the mac version of VBA, codes work fine just do this:

1) open up VBA

2) drag from the options menu and choose gameshark or codebreaker (code format) - XXXXXXXX YYYY is entered under codebreaker (even if it says something else) and XXXXXXXXYYYYYYYY is entered in the gameshark section

3) enter codes you only get 6 slots to do this, but if you open your game, close the window and add more codes it works just fine. some longer codes don't work but most can be split into 6 line segments

4) open and run the game

thats it, but certain codes are hard to use, like the ones that require you to turn the codes on and off. i never use these because you can't easily turn them off and back on. The only way is to save, quit VBA and start again. Save states save codes with them. I can't think of anything else that is important.

If that doesn't help, i guess i can learn to load some screenies for ya

Can I ask you what codes on what game(s) you have gotten to work, because I have been lurking this board for months trying to get Pokemon Leaf Green codes to work without success.

well, I have played a number of games, including pokemon games. I don't think i played leaf green, but i have played fire red. I usually don't bother with codes in pokemon, because it simple enough to start. i suppose if you want to fill your pokedex on an emulator its the only way (well, vba-link but thats windows again). If you are trying for wild pokemon mods, good luck i haven't gotten one of those to work since ruby-sapphire, after which they made the system crazy complicated.

so tell me where you are getting your codes, and what codes you are trying to input

pokemon games are always hard to get cheats to work for on mac VBA

Gamefaqs.

Pokemon LeafGreen Version FAQs - Pokemon LeafGreen Version Walkthroughs - Pokemon LeafGreen Version Guides

I know the codes are good because they work perfectly when I tested them on my PC, which finally kicked the bucket for good about two weeks after I tried.

the codebreaker rng kill and money code seem to work, though it displays your money with a "?" at the beginning

the item and item multiplier codes also work great, (99 masterballs in solt one of pc, no problem)

the wild pokemon mods didn't work for me, but codes that require a special mastercode i have never gotten to work

(note that all of these were done right at the beginning of the game)

on to the AR codes.... these are all done right after the codebreaker codes

none of the action replay codes seem to work. I am going to check out the alpha release of VBA-M for mac, if it works well for my games ill check codes for leaf green for you again

yes i use the most recent version unless my game wont save (so in other words, only golden sun)

i will say this right now, some cheats will not work no matter what you do. This is a limitation of VBA for mac as far as I can tell.

if someone chooses a game i can do a picture tutorial using that game (if I have it).

Rendlog, what game are you trying to play and what cheats are you trying to use? (if i have the game i will do a set of screenies just for you )
