Periodic Slowdown with FFVI Advance

I've recently downloaded the latest version 1.83 (beta) VBA for FFVI Advance.

The game slows down badly periodically...as low as 20% sometimes. It then goes back up to 100% for several minutes...then slows down again.

I've used VBA in the past and other RPGs like FFTA, Golden Sun, Riviera ran absolutely fine without any problems whatsoever. Was prolly using an older version of VBA since it was quite some time back.

Is it the latest version? Is it just the game ie. FFVI Advance? Any advice on how I can get smooth game play...setting tweaks or anything?

PS.
My system is a laptop, pentium 4 with 512 RAM. Gfx card is an ancient Nvidia geforce4 488 go.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.

Pardon my ignorance but what do you mean by clock of my cpu?

Video card is 64MB. I've updated it with Omega Drivers.

I've tried it both fullscreen and at 2x size.

He means how many megahertz does your cpu have. You can usually check it by pressing windows key+pause/break.

At the bottom it should say what cpu you have, its internal clock in MHz, how much ram you have etc.

Also maybe try on no$gba. In some cases it's faster than vba.

Oh...then its either 2.60 or 1.30 GHz...prolly the former.

Update:

Problem solved when I switched to an earlier 1.72 version of VBA. Weird.
