framerate setting

im getting some slowdown in some of the games i have, is there a specific frame rate skip that would work best? i just basicaly need to know if someone could tell me what settings (not just the framerate in particular) would give me the best performance . i currently have my framerate skip set to 1, and no throttle at all.

I currently have my frameskip set to zero 3 should be the highest that you set it anything higher looks horrible. also using GDI as your render method also makes it run slightly faster.
