Gameboy llinking help

I'm trying to link a pokemon red and blue game together. I have read everything I can find. The problem I'm having is every time I open one of the games the other game won't open properly. Meaning, the second game acts like my game doesn't exist and it wants me to create a new game. My first game always loads to the right place, but my second game always wants me create a new game. I hope I have given enough info, because I'm not sure what else to say.

Rename the second game save to .sa2 or .sg2
