Boktai: The Sun is in your hand prob

Okay, I know this game is ancient, but when I try to run the ROM in my VBA 1.8.0b, around 5 seconds into the game, I get a "Solar Sensor is Broken" message. I already used the vba-over.ini file. When I tried the IPS patch i've seen on one of the other posts, I only get a black screen. Any suggestions?

well, mine works right

check the CRC > 400B3F14 (with intro) if is the same, then use this line on vba-over

1161 - Boktai - The Sun Is in Your Hand (U)
[U3IE]
rtcEnabled=0 < this game need to have rtc disabled, dunno why the vbaover came with this option at 1 (ON)

how do you check the CRC? If you use File>Rom information, then the CRC is 0c.

Theres a sticky in this forum at top about how to fix this rom and several others that might give you a lil more help if hiei here is being to confusing.

What version of the game are you using? Go to File>Rom Info and post the Game Code here.

EDIT: Actually, the vba-over has nothing to do with the solar sensor problem. You need a patch for that. Make sure that your'e using the right patch for the version that you have. But still, check the Game Code so I can see if I can find the right patch for your version.

mine is:

Game Code: U3IE
VBA CRC: 0C
CRC32: 400B3F14

you can check the CRC with a hex editor, or simply zip the file and check on winrar or 7zip

if you have the same, then disable the RTC

yes it has, if you have the RTC enabled (even with the patch), all you'll get is a "SOLAR SENSOR IS BROKEN"

The version that I have tested with is the same as yours. The problem he is having is a black screen which is something that I never experienced. Try to remove the vba-over and saves of the game and start fresh with this patch and the game should work fine. Just make sure that the patch has the same name as the rom with the exception of the extension and in the same directory as the rom.

Example:

Boktai - The Sun Is In Your Hand (U).gba
Boktai - The Sun Is In Your Hand (U).ips

this ips patch is the same as my file, the crc doesn't even changed after patched... it has a EURASIA intro, when i start with RTC enabled, the game stop after some seconds with the message SOLAR SENSOR IS BROKEN

if yours is the same, then i don't know why mine give this error and yours not :/ for me the game starts normally, but is necessary have RTC disabled

then after patch (probably a wrong patch) is about the black screen



EDIT: ok, after some look at the file, i removed the EURASIA intro and changed the button L to R (to ajust the sunlight)

The problem is probably trying to use a patched game with the vba-over. They may be interfering with each other. Like I said, you should probably remove or not use the vba-over if you plan to use a patched game. That's what I did and it worked for me. The reason why the rtc setting is enabled in the vba-over is so that the game will use the system time in your computer so the game can keep track of night and day like it would in the real game. It does not fix the solar problem at all. I should have made that clear in the vba-over thread.

Turn off the rtc setting and delete the .sav files and when you first set up the game the time will show 00:00 AM as the time. Enable the rtc setting and it will show the current system time that is on your computer. Do you see the reason why it's in the vba-over now? I agree that the black screen is probably because of the wrong patch.

EDIT: I tried your patch and still got the solar sensor error .

it doesn't matter if i use vbaover with a patched file, the game give you the solar sensor error if you don't disable the rtc, i use vba-over ini for convenience, since boktai2 and 3 uses rtc, and BOKTAI 1 NEED TO HAVE RTC DISABLED, about the patch i made, it's just to remove the crap intro and change the button to modify the sunlight (L to R) i can't correct the solar thing, you can change the TIME with L+R+Up to increase or Down to decrease

I gave another look into my rom. Looks like my rom has the Eurasia patch already. If I'm reading these posts right, I have to turn off the RTC for Boktai to stop the Solar Sensor error thing.
