FPS problems

OK i'm stumped on how to get the frames up on VBA 1.6, I've been playing pokemon blue and it works fine but when I try to play pokemon fire red the frames drop down so much that I can't play. Can anyone suggest how I could raise the FPS?

Try using VBA 1.7.2 or the 1.8beta...and put your frameskip up higher
