Music Substitution Suggestion
With the recent release of the FFTA OST, I was inspired with an idea that could really enhance our audio experience with VBA. The OST contains 2 cd's. The first is the 'GBA Original Sound Version' which is basically the unenhanced in-game music. The second disc is the 'Full Sound Version' which contains sagnificantly enhanced versions of almost all the songs - it sounds as if an orchestra was performing the music (well it's synth but you get the picture).
Anyway, wouldn't it be cool to have the enhanced music playing rather than the original version as you play the game on emu? I know you could just turn off sound and keep sound effects on and play the mp3 in winamp. What would be neat is if there was a way within the emu to choose an mp3 to play when a new track starts playing. Each game could have a config file which maps in-game tracks to mp3's on your hard drive. The mp3's could then automatically be loaded in winamp whenever that track starts to play in the emulator. Imagine the possibilities of having your mp3's being played instead of some of the bland gb/gba music. What do you think? Is it feasable and is this something that you'd like to see? |

How would I go about doing this with an IPS patch? I thought IPS patchers were mainly for applying translation patches. I don't really want to modify the rom and insert mp3 data in them since the rom would get quite large.

I really like that idea. It would probably take a bit of work to get the MP3s to change when the track that the game usually uses changes (for instance when you enter a menu screen the music changes etc.)
Now I don't know much about programming but it sounds possible. Great idea!
