Should VBA Have a .SGM and/or .GBA Editor?

I've been thinking that since VBA's already scratched the surface with VBA Hack, they should really go ahead and just make a save file editor. Users could note memory addresses they want to edit (like your HP address), and when the game is saved, VBA could figure out where the HP value is stored, and allow you to edit it.

Also, more advanced game hacking often uses code patching, meaning editing of the game's code. Should VBA have an interface for this? Hypothetically, you could edit the game's code while it's running, as well as save patches to the .GBA file.

If these already exist, let me know.

VBA is DEAD

Also, IT ALREADY HAS A MEMORY EDITOR.

Hmm, no I didn't. Mainly because I just joined.
And a memory editor is different from a .SGM or .GBA editor. Those being the only two I suggested, did you mean either of those?

This also sounds like a typical case of easier said than done.

That's true for all things programmed (BOCTAOE), but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be done. I speak from a user's point of view, and think that these would be useful tools. I'd have to see the .SGM saving function to see if it could be done the way I'm thinking.

The same goes for .GBA patching, but it does contain code of some sort, which could be patched. How well VBA was coded will determine how easy these are to implement, but they should be straightforward.

You speak from a point of view that can't see how hard it is and if it's even perhaps impossible.

Save editors are none of our concern.

It's not impossible. If an address is saved to a .SGM file, it can be traced. I'm a fairly competent programmer, and I understand the IMPORTANCE of developing from a user's point of view.

Cost VS Benefit still applies though....you're the first person to suggest anything like this...also I was referring more to live GBA File altering....although that would be covered by the memory viewer and code altering abilities it already has.

true, but I think the benefit would be worth it. Built-in save editors could get useful. VBA already has code-altering abilities? What version of VBA?

perhaps I missunderstood what you wanted but whilst not permanent the cheats menu and the tools in the tools menu should be able to accomplish most things.
