no, MACS SUCK PERIOD. You can put intel hardware in it, a geforce, it doesn't matter, its still a mac and its still a piece of ****. Windows/Linux >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>OS2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>Mac

I can't argue that linux is greater than mac but trust me windows does not deserve to be that high. also you do know mac is linux? its unix based, it has terminal and is good for a lot that windows isn't all it needs are good programers to make the games. work. anyway we can get the save file just not open the god damn thing any tips? |

Okay, I have a mac (os 10.5) using VBA (1.7.4) and whenever I tried to save I had the message that went something like "Error creating file Battery Saves Pokemon Emerald # GBA.sav mac" And yes, I had the Battery Saves and Save States folders. Everything was on my desktop, and of course I couldn't reset the save state by going to Options>Emulator>Save states, because there was no 'Emulator' option under Options. And I couldn't change the CFG or INI file stuff because there wasn't any file like that in the VBA folders. But I DID get it working by doing a combination of things stated here. 1) I moved EVERYTHING into the main VBA folder (which should include Battery Saves, Save States, and Screenshots folders as well as a Read Me text file, a VBA webpage file, and the actual VBA emulator itself) including the roms 2) I moved the roms into the 'Save States' folder 3) I moved the VBA folder into the Applications folder 4) Restarted the emulator Then it worked. So, mac users, see if that does the trick if you have similar problems. : ) hope it helps. Also, macs don't suck. The only people I've EVER met who think so are gamers. The only reason macs don't appeal to gamers is that no one markets or designs games for the system. However, for artists, musicians and those interested in leisurely computer use, it's superior in many respects. Every modern OS has it's strengths over others. Don't knock macs just because they don't cater specifically to programs designed initially for windows. ; ) |

Well if you have version 1.7.2 then that's probably the reason why it is not working since that version is so glitchy but if you get the newest version, 1.7.4 then it should work. That's what I did and it works just fine ^_^

Remember they are talking about the Mac build though...whilst what you said is indeed true for the Windows builds it may not be so for the mac ports.

Also, does anyone know why the screen for the emulator is so small? In Windows, we can make it full screen whereas it is no bigger than a square on a mac. Any solutions? Last edited by neo_ripper; August 3rd, 2009 at 04:13.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Oh yeah, no problem. : ) 1) Open up VBA application but don't open up any roms 2) Then under the top toolbar menu, go to the VisualBoyAdvance 3) Scroll down to Preferences... 4) There should be 3 tabs "Emulator, Video, and Sound" 5) Click on Video, and on the area that says "Video Size" there should be a list that says something like 1x, 2x, etc. Then you can select one of those options, whichever one is best for you. The next time you open up a rom it should be resized. I hope this works for you. |

Hey, I can't remember who said it, but moving the rom file into the save states file worked (well it did for the first time i tried it... hmm, touch wood) I found out it wasn't working because I had two visual boy advances, so saving wouldn't work for either until I figured it out and removed the other. It's so frustrating, specially for a game like Pokemon... you know when you train really hard and your game just disappears!! But it seems to be ok now, thanks for your help people |

Hey guys, I just tried this, and for my version for whatever reason, the "Save States" folder can't be modified. I tried to drag the rom into it and it's completely locked. I can't even erase it off my computer because of the permissions. Any insight??

Hey, I'm brand new to the whole emulators and coding thing so i'm not sure exactly what i'm doing. I'm trying to play the first Golden Sun and the errors for battery saves and save states both show up. If someone could explain how to fix in the simplest terms that would be great . Btw i'm running the newest version of Leopard OSX with the new model of the MacBook if that helps in explaining. And I tried using onorobo's method and it still isnt working. I have the program, documents and folders in the VBA folder and the VBA folder in my applications folder. The roms are in the save states folder and it still wont let me. I'm getting kind of frustrated . Help asap plz??Much appreciated |

I have done the onorobo's method too. I see in the battery saves folder the .sav file of my games, but when I want to play with those saves, It dosen't work. I've tried to open the save file with the VBA and the ROM, I've tried to open the ROM and I've tried to open the ROM by VBA. Nothing work. I've tried with the games advance war and advance wars 2. maybe it's the ROMs that dosen't work, I don't know. I've tried those ROMs on a version of VBA-M that I found for mac (Yes I have mac, v.1,05) and it also dosen't work. I also tried those ROMs with another GBA emulator (God forgive me ) And I had the same problem of saving.I also check if I could write in the save states folder and battery saves folder and I can. Hope you can find the solution and thanks for all the work you already did. |

I tried something that seems to have worked with saving it but now I don't know how to use the saved file. I copied the entire vba folder into my hard drive, enabled the folder, and duplicated the folder. I used the duplicated folder and it works now. Hope that helps somebody else. Any tips on how to use the save files now? Still using Golden Sun as the game im trying to get to work, i did the "freeze game state" and it saved it in the saved state folder as "0171 - Golden Sun (UE)1.sgm". SO the saved file exists but i dont know how to use it. Help?

Hello, I tried everything you said and redownloaded vba several times.. but it still doesn't work saving the game! I think the main problem is that I don't have any permission on the vba file.. I really don't know what to do I hope someone still has an idea how to fix the problem! Edit: ok I know now how to save, I just mixed all of your solutions! But now I have the problem to load the saves... this is really getting annoying. Did somebody find a solution? Last edited by Shadowpati; September 12th, 2009 at 22:20.. |
