Getting the old save files to work
So I, like the other 1000 people, had a problem on the Fire Red (U) save thing with the 1M circuit board and save errors. I figured out how to fix the problem by removing my old save file from the VBA folder and switching Save Type to 128k. However, it doesn't look good for my old save game to be restored, is there any hope that I can now use my old save or do I just have to start over?

Save files which were made with a wrong save type configuration are always "empty" (nothing saved on them) or corrupted (this ones are not usable and cannot be repaired/fixed). Pokemon's games would never let you save if you have a wrong save type configuration so it's more likely that your Pokemon save files are empty. Of course, you only had to erase Pokemon save files. All the others are ok. If you happen to have a save state made with a wrong save type configuration, you can recover all your progress through a very long process that will make you able to generate a save file from a save state. I won't go in to details because is too long to tell/explain and you can find the instructions on several pokefans web pages. Just use Google... |
