run some adware/spyware scan on your system. IE add-ons might also be the problem.

does it freeze up on specific things? is this some sort of reoccuring freeze that always happens when you do a certain thing or are they just totally random?

I'm sorry to say this: IE7 is a way more unstable than Firefox. If I enlarge the website, I have to point my cursor nowhere to open a link.

I have had random crashes with Youtube, too.

I hope that Microsoft will fix everything.

You got it right. Thinking about Windows development... Windows XP fixed most annoying problems of Win95, but still... you know what I mean.

IE8 actually passes a lot more test than IE7 does and seems pretty good. It even passed the (complete) Acid2 test. That's something you know, and a huge move forward for Internet Explorer since previous (and current released) version of IE completely FAIL (and very hard) the tests.

I still prefer Firefox, but at least we know MS isnt gonna take ages to fix things.

i have used firefox before, but try to stick with the web browser bundled with my OS.

this is because i have a 64 bit version of vista, and i feel that the browsers that came with it will be most compatible.

maybe this isn't even a valid excuse...
