WinRar Password Crack
Does anyone know the good program that I can crack the password to open the Winrar files in which it is protected by a password? I have one huge file but it was protected by a password. So let me know is there is a good program in order to crack the password successfully.

brute-force that sucker. It will most likely take awhile, like days. No idea what program to use. Also you probably should not be talking about cracking passwords on this forum even though we are assuming its an old file you just forgot the password to.

THere's a couple programs out there that force extract compressed files even if they are passworded. Not going to say the names though.

It depends on how to password protection is done, if you use a password to encrypt the data when you pack the file, brute force will be impossible since you don't know whatever the password is right or wrong until the file has been extracted. I think rar uses a worse method though, so it should be possible. Also I don't see him breaking any rules since it is quite normal to forget a password to old rar files you made.

we know, we're just covering our asses in case this evolves into something that is going against the rules (no offence to the thread starter). either way, the passware program should be able to take care of it.

Xieve-style optimization can multiply the b0rking speed by 30x, even for bruting , but in all cases, RAR's method is pretty much very solid, no known flaws in decryption routines, unlike with ZIP (explains why its encr. was b0rked so soon). If its some precious archives, I think there are some legit places that use big computer clusters to have it b0rked for you. Unless I'm mistaken, you'd need to prove ownership of the content in it first

It was only a matter of time, but a russian firm is developing a program that uses the massive parralel processing capability of a 8800GTX to brute force attack password and can crack a password normally taking several months in just a few days.
I saw the article in newscientist.com a month or 2 ago. Password-cracking chip causes security concerns - tech - 24 October 2007 - New Scientist Tech I'm wondering what a 3way S.L.I. 9800GTX configuration will be able to do.
