Custom to official through network or umd
Is it possible to upgrade from 3.40 oe to official firmware using network update or umd? Because I eventually want to get it back to official.

No. You need to downgrade to 1.5 then you can back to official.

you use the recovery. i'm not 100% sure how myself though. most psp games out now don't really appeal to me so i'm on 3.51 M33-7 as it plays all my homebrew
try looking Here for any homebrew news/help (including downgrading from 3.40 OE-A to 1.50)

I can't figure out how to use recovery.
Edit- OE Usage Manual ~it's installed now what~ - eXophase Forums This is the way to recover it? I downloaded the all oe recovery eboot. If I use recovery and set it back to 1.5 can i use the network update and get it to 3.51?

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to upgrade to official firmware?

Because sony is going to have an an iso loader built in for psx games so I don't have to buy them through the ps3 that I don't have and can't afford. And this custom firmware is too complicated for me. I'd rather just have it back on regular firmware because I don't want to screw it up. I'm not rich and I don't want to buy a new one.

That SONY iso loader is to play PSP games or maybe PSOne games that rumours said to be implemented for online game selling strategy. For PSX, you need to buy it through PS3 network. Even you already had that game you still need to buy it for your PSP because it's in different format file. Never be free. But with custom firmware, currently M33 3.51-7, that SONY iso loader is there for you to use. And it's work well and very large no-umd compatibility. To update to custom firmware is not so complicated after all. What's a problem with your currently 3.40 OE?

Ultimately I don't believe every firmware will be able to be decrypted and turned into custom firmware. I don't think the hackers will win because sony is just gonna make it more and more secure.

Actually, its always quite the opposite. The hackers wins every war so far against Sony:;.
And I thought that they will end it with Dark Alex leaving the scene, but was I wrong. Take PS2 for example, in the end, do they have a modchip for every single version of the PS2? And how about the psone? its the same thing. I don't know how to word this correctly, but there is always a saying in Chinese: "When the light side grows by one inch, the dark side grows by a feet"

You make a good point. But if I'm on official and something goes wrong It will be replaced. I was talking to a guy at best buy who said that 3.51 has overheated in rare cases and fried. Which Sony has to replace, I think even without a warrenty because its their fault (I'm not sure about the warrenty thing so correct me if I'm wrong).

umm... 3.51 M-33-7 hasn't "fried" on me so far and i've been using my psp a lot. so it's not a case of the fw "overheating" since the firmware is only a bit of programming on the flash0/flash1 chip. if the psp overheats, it's down to the psp and how it's treated.

The only reason I could think of is when the psp is clocked at a constant 333mhz under extremely hot conditions or that you short circuit the psp while doing some hardware mod.
Well, I am still using 3.03 oe-C and am happy with it since it can play all of my psx collection now (including ff8!!!)

Any time you flash/downgrade/upgrade your psp there is a chance it will brick.
Take your time to read it and make sure it is plugged in and the battery is charged. Usually if you brick it, it is your own fool fault.
