Error when installing Spiderman 3 for PC

I didn't know if this belonged in the Game discussion forum or Software discussion, so move it if necessary.

Every time I try to install Spiderman 3 in Vista it errors out during the beginning of install saying (Screenshot Below)

Before you ask, yes this is a fairly new legally bought game from Gamestop (I always buy all of my games legally.)

This game is compatible with Windows Vista, as even the manual and Readme says it is compatible with Vista. Not to mention I have already installed and played it once on Vista already, but had to reformat my PC requiring it to be reinstalled.

I've already tried searching google for a solution to my problem. The Game DVD is fairly new, no defects and hardly any scratches. I've already tried cleaning the disc with a dry cloth as well as a slightly damp cloth, which didn't work.

Can someone help me figure out what I need to do in order to successfuly reinstall this game or get rid of this error?

Thank You.

No No No... you're doing it all wrong!

Use CD-Check utility (its free, google it) and see if you can find any errors on the disc.

Thanks Metalmurphy, I will try that and post back when I am able to download that utility.

lol at your pic above, I only purchased SM3 because I've never bought or tried any of the previous Spiderman games and since this was available in Gamestop for the PC at $20.00 - $29.00 (Can't remember which price), I decided to buy it to try. I don't own a console atm and since it was available for the PC, I bought it.

That pic is missing one minor detail though, I own an Xbox360 controller for my PC and not a Playstation controller.

Btw, isn't that pic supposed to say, "If chewing the joysticks don't work.....?"

it doesnt sound like something that would be caused from the disc being scratched or something. im just guessing here but i would put my money on the game having compatibility issues with vista. i dont have vista but it is a fairly new o/s (the game itself is fairly new too) and while the game may claim to be compatible, there may be a host of bugs or glitches that have been yet to be worked out. i would check the net (official site for the game?) for forums specifically for the game or something of the sort and see if you can find other people having the same problem.

Thanks but I've already tried a google search which returned nearly 0 results. Only result which turned up was on a torrent on a torrent website of Spiderman 3 the game, and no solution was posted either. That wouldn't apply to me since the game I have was bought legally at Gamestop for $29.99.

Also I've already installed and played this once on Vista (Not sure if there was a trick involved, can't remember) so I don't think it's a compatibility problem. Also there doesn't seem to be really anyone experiencing this problem which explains the lack of google search results.

Did you ry installing it on any other OS? Because if it works on say windows xp, it is most likely a problem with vista

Hahaha, I figured it out.

This game doesn't like any kind of virtual drive software running or any anti-blacklisting tools like Daemon-Tools, Alcohol or Yasu. That also explains why the only ones having problems were those on torrent websites that have downloaded the game.

I just disabled and closed any of my Virtual Drives and Virtual Drive software such as Daemon Tools, Alcohol 52% and Anti-Blacklisting tools like Yasu, then it installed like a charm.

Those of you thinking of torrenting this game and installing it via a Virtual Drive or Burning it to DVD, don't or you will have the same problem as me (And mine is a Legal copy of the game).

Must be the type of copy protection it uses, detects if any Virtual Drive or Anti-Blacklisting Software is running before or during install and if it detects any it will error out with the error posted above at the beginning of the install process.

I feel sorry for the poor torrenters/warezers/freeloaders who wasted their time downloading this game only to find out it won't install if Virtual Drives, Virtual Drive Software, and Anti-Blacklisting tools are present.

Don't think that would stop piracy.
They always find a way.
