Upgrade to 64 bit xp?

Im thinking of upgrading to win xp prof 64 bit, but i wanted to ask a few questions first.

1. are there any compatibility problems, as far as gaming and drivers?
2. Do i have to reformat? or can i just upgrade my system (win xp pro32bit)

i might have more but i forget them right now.

Yup you need to format you HDD. But you could use Dual boot if you dont want to.

The xp64 CD comes with very few drivers. I'd search on the web for xp64 drivers to your hardware before making this decision. For example, my wireless network card does not have a xp64 driver.

I think Vista 64 is a better choice at this stage.

you will more than likely have problems with network card drivers, support for them is lacking greatly.

webcams as well.

apart from that most stuff should run without problems.

id suggest not formatting tho, just make a new partition and install it to that so you dual boot

The strong support Win2003 64-bit is seeing will help with network drivers, since XP64 shares that codebase.

Ive been running XP64 on my main rig since January and I have had no problems thus far. I only play a few games but they all run fast and reliably.

I ran XP x64 for a little bit last summer, and I also had a good experience with it. The only things I couldn't get working that I recall were my video card's VIVO function (no drivers at the time), and Diskeeper.

Note that video drivers will be severely out of date for 64-bit. The last nvidia release for 64-bit drivers was back in november of '06. There have been 5 32-bit releases since that point in time. Not sure how ATI looks (I've long since abandoned them due to poor support, and from what I've seen it hasn't gotten any better).
