Restoring XP to Factory

I have an hp laptop that came with Xp and wanted to wipe the drive but only leave the things that originally came on it. I've been googling around and found some things that do this but did'nt know if it would erase "everything" that was put on the c drive by the "user" can someone help me out here? And I wanted to keep all of the HP software that came on it and just not the OS

Most of HP laptops I've seen, come with a recovery tool, that wipes everything and leave everything as it came initially.
