Own/owned:
MS-DOS
Windows 95
Windows 98-SE
Windows ME (...those were the dark ages of my life.)
Windows XP

Tinkered with for a few minutes:
Windows 3.1x
Windows NT
Windows 2000
Mac OS-X
Kubuntu 6.10
Fedora Core 6

I'm currently trying out different Linux distributions of which, so far, Fedora Core 6 is the only one I can work with. I think I'm entering a transition phase in which I'm moving from Microsoft to Linux because Windows Vista literally has my stomach turned. If the Windows lineup continue this way, I'm not going to be interested in investing any more in them and I'll stick to a Windows XP/Linux dual-boot. This will likely continue until support for Windows XP is canned and/or Linux becomes more popular and more widely supported, at which point I'll stick with the penguin.

EDIT:

Heh heh, glad to see I'm not the only one with this mentality

It wasnt that bad. For its time, it has a reasonable colour interface. The only nag I can remember was using the file manager.

hmm... from what I remember:

DOS 5.0: Windows 3.1 -> Windows 3.11 -> Windows 95 -> Windows XP (w00t!, a quantic jump! )

On the linux side:
- Red Hat 8, Red Hat 9, Mandrake, Suse 9, Suse 10, Debian, Fedora Core 1,2,3,4,5 and Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu Breezy/Dapper/Edgy.

On the miscellaneous side:
- Solaris ( /me shivers from the bad memories)
- Mac Os 9,10

Indeed Windows 3.1 wasn't that bad, though odly at the time I vastly preferred working with DOS 5.0... even in my middle school years I thought working from the command line, when you knew what you were doing, was a lot faster

BTW I'm a happy Linux-(almost)-exclusive user as well... I only switch to Windows on the occasional times I need to use Visual Studio (the only product I like from the M$ line)

Microsoft Desktop: Dos 6.22, Windows 3.1, NT, all the way up to Vista RTM.
Microsoft Server: NT Server, Windows Server 2000, 2003, Netware 6
Mandrake 8, Red Hat 9, Fedora, Suse, Ubuntu

Gotta be missing something there...

In the order I like most:

Windows:
Windows Vista (used and liked it but wouldn't use it now, no money...)
Windows XP
Windows 2K
Windows 98
Windows 95
Windows NT 4.0
Windows 3.1
Windows ME

Other OSes:
OSX Tiger
Linux Redhat 5.1 (I think)

Can't really compare osx with windows, sorta different things and different softwares, if only they can join >.>

had:
MSDOS (dunno which version)
Win95
Win98
Win98SE
WinXP
Vista

used:
WinME (motherboard died below it after 10 minutes to the install so I couldn't mess with it much)
Win2000 (on school comps)

WinXP is the one I prefer right now. I would use Vista if its UI inventions wouldnt be retarded - it's painfully difficult to even browse my computer, not even mentioning the labyrinth that the Control Panel became.

Yah i used to run my bbs in dos LOL... once you modded Dos it had a nice
interface.. I modded my command line to have excellent 16 color ascii/ansi
graphics.. My bbs had some nice ansi considering I was an ansi artist and
courier for some major groups like acid ansi and remorse ascii..

Fact is, there's nothing pushing anyone towards vista quite yet. No software is yet out that absolutely requires vista, or even claims to get any benefit from it. I realize that will change soon, but it isn't here yet.

Personally, I'll wait until there's a real reason to go... and even then it may be a while before I shell out for it (if ever). I've pretty much fully made my migration away from Windows, with the exception of games. All browsing, e-mail, office work, development, etc is done under unix.

EDIT: Also, as someone who has put forth the effort to be fully legal and own everything I use, it will be a LONG time before I feel that vista is worth picking up just for the purchase price alone (I could get a PS3 instead).

...and I'm already ripping vista with vLite. With that tool, you can shrink Vista to a CD.
