Time for Linux thread #301 :p Login As Root (Suse 10.2)

Hi I just downloaded Adobe Flash player plugin and I did what the readme said

/Readme On\
To install the plugin as user:

+ Copy or move libflashplayer.so into your plugins directory (usually located): ~/.mozilla/plugins

+ Create the plugins folder if it doesn’t exist

o To install the plugin as root:

+ Copy or move the file into your system browser installed plugins directory (usually located): /usr/lib/<browser_directory>/plugins

+ Create the plugins folder if it doesn’t exist

/Readme Off\

So When I try and paste the Libflashplayer.so into the plugin folder (the second option) It tells me that I am not the root any one knows how I can login as root???

I Use OpenSuse 10.2

Any Help is appreciated

You need to do it from the commandline; open a command shell and type su - to log in as root (asks for the root password you set at install). Don't just log into X as root, that's dangerous.

I would just do the first option, which is put it in /home/[your username]/.mozilla/plugins myself. Lots easier

... and as a general rule, safer. Given, the flash plugin is safe, as a general rule, if you can install something not needed by the system as a user, do it that way instead of doing it as root.
