Hm...I presume the Vista Codec Pack is...uh...Vista-only, right?
If right: Isn't there anything like it for XP?

There's a lot for XP. I seem to see people talking about the K-lite codec pack most, so it must be one of the more popular ones.

I don't use codec packs, though. I just find the codec when it's needed. /:

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. That thing will let you play up to 70% of all media formats in the world. The rest either require their own proprietary players/plug-ins (a.k.a. not using the conventional codec methods), or just are not playable yet (decoding bugs, etc...).

70% is a bit low...I would say 90% is closer...

Spybot is pretty obsolete nowa days... Did its job years ago, now its just become a lot more worse.

Ad-Aware is a memory hog, and doesn't detect crap.

I'd recommend Super Antispyware, Spyware Blaster, and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and Windows Defender.

I use everything as an on-demand scanner.. Don't need anything in start up if you use Spyware Blaster.

EDIT: I also would not recommend uTorrent, or Bittorrent. Not only is uTorrent and Bittorrent is now ran buy anti P2P folks, such as Warner Bros, Media Century, etc but soon they're gonna be installing some good ol spyware to catch the uTorrent music pirates. Azureus and Vuze is good I spose.. Has a lot of nice features and stuff, but uses a lot of memory because it runs in java.. If you got the resources to spare though go with it.

Personally I would go with ABC, or old school with Bittornado.

Oh no, Windows Defender sucks big time! Spybot it too buggy while Ad-aware is just fine (as long as you disable real-time protection) As for an anti-virus, go for Avira as a free solution or Kasperasky Internet Suite 9 if you're willing to cough up.

And uTorrent is by far the best app I've ever used. Uses up literally nothing and yet, is so feature-packed with a user-friendly interface. Plus, its highly resistant to improper shut-downs which is essential to me because of the constant power failures.

Avira AntiVir Classic does not allow you to add false positives to an exception list.

So? Just ignore the warnings. Unless it freezes the file without your permission and doesn't allow it to be executed or moved, in which case, kick Avira out of your PC

Yeah uTorrent is to good to be true. Why don't you read the privacy policies and user agreements very closely and you will see its not worth using.

recently attacked by the annoying Virtumonde trojan that prevented me from accessing random sites as well as caused my explorer.exe to pulsate (disappear then reappear) and it also destroyed my video drivers -_-

tried most of the antivirus/spyware and none work even the dedicated ones, but somehow Microsoft Live Safety Center manage to remove it easily >_>
