Okay, then which one is best? I was told that NOD32 is the best one to use but you know the trial.. That's the problem.

Antivir PE -> Avast -> AVG

In terms of safety, needless to precise. Antivir PE sometimes shows some sort of nag screen people might not find acceptable

Well I have noted that virus that NOD32 was not able to get rid off, like the virus that affect the autorun on drives, Kaspersky easily detects it and clean it.

Kasperky has been the most effective antivirus for me.

kaspersky features a more efficient navigation securing features, but as a whole the kaspersky suite is the recommended all-in-one solution for safety (nod32 is still an antivirus after all)

for home users, kaspersky suite brings the most safety. didnt check the new nod32 3.0 security suite, but i expect that kaspersky would still be the top performer there -its only negative point would seem to be the rather large ressource usage, but thats a little expected from software suites anyway...)

Wow, the first page said otherwise that NOD32, AVG, and Kasperky are the best ones but you guys say some negative about NOD32, AVG, and Kasperky. Which one is better ?

free antiviruses:
Antivir PE -> Avast -> AVG

commercial antiviruses (generally much better than the small free ones)
Kaspersky -> NOD32 -> ??? ;P
NOD32 has nicely improved its detection rates even further in version 3, but generally the 2.7 is still the most widespread one.

for antiviruses, just keep an eye on AV-Comparatives (a comparative list), that should be cool enough to keep in touch with trends.

If you don't want your PC to have wasted resources because of installing an AntiVirus, then I highly recommend NOD32 AV or the Smart Security Suite. Another good thing about NOD32 is that it has no false positives and it can do a system scan very fast (Smart Security also has a built in firewall).

And yes, Kaspersky is also a very good AV, just uses more resources.

A thing about AV's is that you'll never have "The Best", because they ALL have their ups and downs, you know?

Yeah there are a lot like this Virus.Win32.AutoRun and this Virus.Win32.AutoRun.ah.

Some of them are not cleaned by NOD32 and just inserting the USB drive or checking the hdd with Kaspersky is okay.

sunbelt doesnt allow software-based gateways in its nonpaid edition. other than that, the paid edition is basically as featureful and safe as the free one (comodo and AOF dont have this gateway limitation).

anything but xp's firewall is already an upgrade anyway, so keeping usability in mind is nice too. and sunbelt is nicely usable indeed, while not among the toppest performers ;-P

InfraRecorder is a great, lightweight, free, Open Source alternative to Nero.
