How to manually delete windows
I installed windows vista on a second partition but now I want to delete the windows vista operating system using windows xp. Thing is i used vistabootpro to remove the bootprocess where you have to choose which windows you want to use. Is it by any chance possible to delete the windows folder on the seond partition without deleting my whole partition. I just want to delete the windows folder which has windows vista through XP thats all. thanks for all the help.

First you cant delete the folder named windows just like that since there are files in windows which cannot be deleted while your in the OS. Even though its not even related to the OS it wont let you delete those files thus preventing me to delete the whole folder. Secondly as for the OS selection menu Ive already taken care of that its removed from the OS selection menu. I just need to delete the folder thats all. So any other suggestions???

You can easily delete the windows folder, just make sure no processes are running from it and that you have ownership of all the files and delete them.
To remove Vista from the boot menu edit boot.ini from the windows drive (c:\).

Well as for the files in the process window not possible since im running through the XP OS allthough the ownership of the files through XP OS is something I dont know how to do and since there are so many files in the windows vista folder its not possible for me to trace each and every single one and take ownership of those files. Is there a single catch on how to take ownership of the files through the XP OS and as for the boot menu I did mention that Ive already taken care of it. Now regarding formating the partition I know i can do that but i dont wont to since i have 80 gig of data on that drive and the primary OS is installed on a 50 gig drive. so any other suggestions.

Boot from Vista install DVD, choose repair options and start CLI changedir to Vista partition, doublecheck it's not the XP partition and execute del /f /s boot del /f /s windows del /f /s progra~1 del /f /s progra~2 del /f /s docume~1 Just in case you had created folders named progra* or docume* under XP on that partition, rename them first. |
