Against WMP 11

Microsoft released WMP 11 not to long ago. Well, I decided to try it, and was quite impressed with the GUI. Performance, however, sucks.

It plays Music and Videos well, but working with other applications, it needs some work. I experienced some problems at first playing videos-they'd play at like 15 FPS. Reinstalled WMP 10, fixed the problem.

Installed WMP 11 again, movies play fine, everything looks good. However, Windows Movie Maker was giving me problems. Only certain clips that it created would allow themselves to be previewed before moving them into the timeline, along with some short lockups here and there. Is Microsoft planning a new version of Movie Maker? Because it seems like WMP 11 has some problems with apps that had WMP 10 in mind. I don't know about you guys but I'm quite pissed off.

had no problems when I tried the beta (but I don't know anymore if I used moviemaker then)... is it still beta? =P

...and I seriously hope the moviemaker will stay. I love that program.

I had the same problem with WMM. Overall, WMP 10 works good for me so far, so I really have no real reason to upgrade to WMP 11. Whenever I upgrade a Windows based program, I end up being dissapointed. I'm more unimpressed with the newest IE. It crashed on me like 2 times as I was posting this message.

On DRM:

Just to start on the subject, anyone noticed the licences backup and restore functions are gone ?

After you buy music on the net, you better pray hard drive never crashes, or else you'll have to rebuy licences for those, though the files are sitting on the desktop.

WMP9 was the last acceptable version of WMP, I say. MS keeps downgrading it in every "newer"version. Every update is just an excuse to slap more recent DRM.

No OGG or MP4 containers support too...

I try not to use any of the MS programs. They tend to be too GUI and subsequently, too bulky.

I think I've never installed any newer version than what comes on the windows setup CD as I don't use WMP anyways.

There are MPC (Media Player Classic) and VLC that are really great players.

what WMP 11 lack is video codecs. If it was like VLC Player then I believe WMP 11 would be perfect. I like using WMP 11 to listen to music, but all of my videos need to be play on VLC Player instead. WMP 11 does have a nice interface/look to it. I like it

I only use WMP for my pron videos.
It's design excites me a lot

I miss the old win9x mplayer. I could have like 20 instances of my favorite pron videos running on the screen at the same time. Now I'm limited to viewing one at a time .

Indeed.
Not to mention that WMP is now a lot heavier to load. But like I said, the only thing that keeps me using it is it's design.

(On side note: I've been thinking on making an Aero WMP11 skin, like in Vista, for Winamp, since it supports translucency... if someone do that, bye bye WMP11).

That version of WMP is still in Windows XP. If you can't find it in the start menu it is in the C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player folder as mplayer2.exe

I find it nice to use on occasion.

I would like to know why WMP always makes an outbound connection to Microsoft every time i play a movie... can't we watch our porn in privacy now? Worst thing is if i block that connection the movie takes like 10 seconds to start.

Weird my copy of WMP 10 doesn't do that but then again I make sure to turn off all the stuff that runs automatically. I also only use WMP10 for my mp3s, as I find its interface quick and simple to use. For all my videos I use VLC.

Well apparently uninstalling WMP 11 screwed up Windows Media Connect. My Xbox 360 keeps telling me it can't find a computer running media sharing software. Even better, since WMP 11 has all of these sharing features, I can't find the special Windows Media Connect install for Xbox 360 on the Microsoft website! Apparently they've ditched it in favor of WMP 11. What a treat. Now I think there was an app that could be used in place of Windows Media Connect...just need to find it.
