It's very optimized in RC1 compared to the previous Beta's. I think the reason why Vista takes so much resources is simply because the OS kernel now includes a lot more services than any Windows OS before. From realtime disk defragging, file search indexing, windows IE defender, and a lot other services that are included in the kernel Shell. Many of the services can be disabled though, but I see no reason why unless you really need the resources. One thing that most people will disable is the UAC. It becomes a pain when every system command requires a "yes" button to be clicked. Opening the control panel for user management, click yes. Open the system hardware management control panel, click yes.

Yeah, I was a bit dissappointed with that. I can understand that we need to move away from legacy hardware and use modern USB port gamepads. Too bad the USB version of the MS sidewinder has so much input lag. Maybe it works better in Vista. Luckily, I'm dual booting Xp/Vista.

They were supported, but I believe many gameport gamepads had issues. Personally, my gameport MS sidewinder worked fine and I have 2 of them connected at one time. It is a MS product so..

hm, I never noticed issues with gameport devices in XP... I have an old joystick and a thrustmaster formula t2 wheel and they always work just fine..
