Question Help with RAM...

I was wondering if there was a program that could convert extra hard drive space into RAM...
If there is, could you post a link for me?

Thanks

Err, if I'm not mistaken, Windows does that all the time on it's own. That's what happens when your physical memory gets full. there might be some program that'll do it in a more organized and better way... not sure.

Increase your swap space. Windows automatically creates a file for swap. Look up "virtual memory" (That's what Windows calls it, though the correct term is "swap").

not really, the reason its slow is cos hard drives can only access at 20-30mb/sec where ram is in the gb/sec range, hence it being increadibly slow.

if you want a difinitave solution, buy some more ram! ;p

If you are using win98 or 95, you can try programs like cacheman. They help a bit in those older systems, but are totally useless in WinXP.

Reduce the cache using Cacheman for exapmle. Works woders with XP and low amounts of RAM.

Windows ME can hog up to 70% of all RAM merely at startup, with no programs loaded. XP is more efficient at RAM handling.

One more vote against Windows ME

Also try FreeRam XP Pro. I find it better than Cacheman but either is good.

and the best solution is buying more ram as Refraction said.

I'm surprised about all the Me hate since it was just Windows 98 3rd Edition.

Me ran far better when its crap tacked on System Restore was removed with either 98lite or Optional Componant Maker.

I ran it quite successfully for years and never suffered a serious error, hell the only reason I upgraded to Windows XP is because the Battle for Middle-Earth wouldn't run on Me, if it had I would likely still be with the operating system.

not to go off topic but ME was very unstable on my pc and my cousin's. we both had a case of disappearing devices. in my case a whole cd drive disappeared making it pretty hard at the time to fix it (read: less tech knowledge ).

Anyways here are the links incase our friend here still wants them

Cacheman http://www.outertech.com/?_charisma_page=product&id=2

FreeRam XP Pro http://www.yourwaresolutions.com/software.html

I know. Tried cacheman in both win98 and XP (have been using it since win98 ), but it makes no difference in XP. Although cacheman offers some tweaks, they can all be made through registry editing. No need to install cacheman at all
