Retrieve Deleted Files
So recently I reformatted my hard drive, and then I realize I have one more file that I forgot to backup and now its gone. I heard that some software claims to be able to retrieve these files, is that true? and if so what program would work best? Thanks

yes many do. One by norton I think (norton recovery?), it worked pretty well. It also depends on how you reformated. If you did a full reformat its all gone cause all the bytes were set back to 0. Only way to recover it then would be to use some nsa insane program not availble to us civilian folk. If you did quick format you should be good cause that just erases the table of contents. I believe the program searches the who drive for files and ones it can correctly rebuild appear in the list. Btw dont install windows use a bootdisk to backup your files first or they may get overwritten.

'Nucleus Kernel for FAT and NTFS' is a great program for this job, I personally use it all the time. It is shareware, so you need a serial number to actually use it, but I can help you with that. Just download the trial and it will tell you if it can actually recover what you want it to, then just PM me for help with the serial.

data is still present unless its overwritten, so you might lose some because of your reinstall, but possibly not.
my personal recommendation, File Scanvenger, managed to recover PCSX2 0.5 which was from over 2 formats before lol. The software isnt free tho, so ill let you work out what you want to do about that

There's an edit button right under every one of your posts. If you need to add more information use that instead of making another post.

I've always used System Mechanic Pro for this problem and many others. It is a very good all-around program IMO. The other good part about it is that you can get a 30-Day trial from their website with no limitations.
Good luck with the file recovery.

Data is totally lost if in condition after low level format. but with high level format the data still present, unless as Ref said the location of the data in File Allocation Table being overwritten. Getdataback is a good choices for this matter.

I was trying to figure that one myself also. I think he means that he prefers the the ones that you have to pay for because the freeware ones are weak and sucky. Like D.D said, maybe he really likes the ones that are weak and sucky, who knows? Lol.

no, it's just an ambiguous sentence. the "they" in the second part of the sentence does not reference "the non-free programs" like you all are saying, but is actually referencing the free ones.
it's a very poorly constructed sentence, which is why there is confusion. and you guys do realize that he said that three months ago, i hope. |
