Blue screen of death after reformatting

I reformatted a harddisk because every time It access windows the BSOD appears, but after having a clean reformat the error is still there. (after installing win 98se.)

It's actually my uncle's PC, but I really have no clue how to fix it. I suggested him that it might be the harddisk or the memory.

What is the common cause of BSOD? Is it hardware related?

Depends on what the error is. Bad memory is a common cause however.

With Windows 98 it might be hard to tell. The blue screens in that don't tell you f all.

Try memtest, it can tell if your memory is bad...

I used to have an annoying, unpredictable BSOD in my new PC. First it was due to a defective vid card. However, many Ghosts later, I realized that the hard drive was a little loose. Odd that it never failed during data transfer....

Yeah... sounds far fetched but it's worth a try. Try making sure everything is connected properly.
