I used DC++ a long time ago.
Here's a tutorial for you: http://aya.walraven.org/dctutorial/ First you have to connect to a hub which you can download from a public list. After connecting you have to read the rules because I find the ops can kick you out easily. If you find you are having problems connecting to a hub you might not be sharing enough. The last time I check 10 GB of shared material was the minimum for most hubs. That's probably have increased in a few years. If you're searching for files I suggest using MoGLO. This third party search engine will search all the hubs at once, though it may 10 minutes to run a complete search. If you're downloading from somebody, I believe a passive connection cannot download from a passive connection. Meaning you better know how to use your firewall and router. Personally I didn't like DC++. Too many overpowered ops and users who don't share properly. eMule is a better at sharing. |

Personally I use eMulePlus, should be at least as good as eMule:

It probably has features that eMule still doesn't have though and it's open, unlike some of the other mods/ports of eMule. I like it and have no problems so I'll stick to it... Used to be an eMule freak earlier tbh, long time since I last tried it, might be as good as eMulePlus now though... Does it have flags etc for countries?

I use emuleMorph and it has flags. What does flags do anyway except making it more colorful
![]() And I think emulePlus doesn't support Unicode so the file names in Chinese are messed up. It also doesn't have Kademlia support. |

Ah well I heard Kademlia brings down alot of home-routers due to massive connection amounts making the router dropping packets, so many people turn it off.
You have a point about the unicode characters I must say, might be a good enough reason to try eMule again. ^^ Flags or countries rather, is fun for the statistics mostly, to see where most users reside.

I use eMule and ABC (Bittorrent). Kademila was great for getting sources quicker, but as mentioned, it crashes my router. The original eMule client with Kad disabled is fine tho.

I'm using eMule now, there are some nice features but the interface is a little bit messier and uglier than eMulePlus. Hopefully, eMulePlus will catch up with the unicode stuff, I read they are planning to make Plus module based like Miranda also, sounds like fun.
The other nice feature I found so far is the search thing, where you can view all the different filenames of a certain file and select what name to download it as. Good for spotting fake files also. Maybe I'll stay with eMule once I discover more stuff. Been away for a long time from it.

Personally, I use samba combined with openVPN + zebra. Doesn't do the fancy splitting files in half and downloading from multiple people, but it's nice and simple (use windows explorer to copy/paste using windows file sharing (aka samba)).
