Command prompt won't accept keywords

Hi guys,
Recently my Win XP command prompt stopped accepting keywords, such as ipconfig, ping, copy, etc. I do not recall messing with any Windows internals before it quit working properly.
This is the message I get:
'"'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"
I use WinXP pro and updated to latest.
