can someone help me with this network setup ?

Whenever I use Bittorrent to share large files (2GB) or so, after half an hr my internet connection just dies or more specifically my router just kills my internet connection I have power down the modem, router and my computer to get my internet connection back. I connected directly to the cable modem and everything worked fine. so I looked around and I guess WinXP has a ICS built in where you can set up a internal network with 2 network card on one computer and share that internet connection with another computer.

I was wondering if thats a good setup for downloads and uploads and will it affect the other computer's internet performance?

Any advice or web links are apppreciated.

Probably something with the router.. What model is it? D-Link models have a problem of their memory getting filled by DNS resolutions which causes a hang.

just a question, how do ya know that your router kills the connection?
If your using cable...your not from singapore are ya?

Anyway, you can share your connection, but it'll bekinda troublesome if you have a firewall.
The best is still connecting to a port on a router using a RJ45 cable. Im not too sure of this, but i find that once you have a router, your connection speed will go down already..not too sure how true it is tho.

my router is a Belkin 4port, and the reason I say it kills my connection cause the every light on my cable modem is on except my activity light then it grabs teh connection back up.
XTERASYS 4-port DSL/Cable Broadband Router, Model XR-1105+ <--- is that good router?

ICS is a very weak internet connection sharing program. It gets the job done, but doesn't handle port forwarding, redirection, or any of the other cool stuff. If you're going to be doing file sharing, it will either be passive or you will have to run the file sharing program on the computer attached to the modem (ICS acts as a NAT... which is kinda similar to a firewall to all internal computers. They can't be addressed from the outside). Personally, I run a FreeBSD machine as a router/firewall. Most of my friends do a similar setup. One of my friends uses a CISCO router (for bragging rights and tinker purposes). Each of these works quite well.
