Omega.Vs.Catalyst

well right now i have the catalyst 4.7 drivers installed...
Is there anything better in the Omega drivers that would be better than the 4.7 catalyst drivers, i know OMega is based on ati drivers, but what are there advatages? and dissadvantages...

Omega's Drivers are tweaked drivers based on catalyst ones. For each Cat release, there's an equivalent Omega driver.

The advantages of the Omega's are the quality of the tweaks concerning the IQ (Image quality) you'll see ingame. Some time you'll get also a better frame rates. They are known to "correct" issues with some games. Omega is an official beta tester for ATI and thus, he has access to informations wich help. He include also many tools in his drivers wich help you to "softmod", "Overclock" and tweak some aspect of your ATI card.

The disadvantages are none.

There are also many other Catalys moders. Each one adding his own touch for speed or quality or simplycity.

Here are my preferates:

1) Omega's
1) Spirit drivers (exequo)
3) UniAN's
4) NGO's
5) Forsage
6) DNA

the only problem I can think of with Omega drivers is that if the Catalyst drivers the release is based on is buggy, then most likely the Omega tweaks will make those bugs worse (or better)

I've been always wanting to try those drivers, but I can't seem to find a link for their homepage

LOL.... Kirby, USA is not alone in the world. Some of the best ones are'nt in english but that don't mean they don't install in english and that don't mean they are bad.... ATI has Beta testers around the world...
I tested myself all these sets and I got no problems concerning the language or the regional settings.

may be, but the language most people understand is english, is not a problem after all spirit drivers are french installer, but is almost too easy to understand it ^^

anyway the thing with omega drivers, is that he usually corrects some problems of the original ati set, he doesnt release the same day as the officil catalyst drivers come, why? because he has to test 'em see what can be improved, what is need to be chnaged and what else can be done, so when kirby said "if the Catalyst drivers the release is based on is buggy, then most likely the Omega tweaks will make those bugs worse (or better)" is just wrong as omegadude only make the drivers better by testing over and over, he even has his own beta tester team

edit: advantages of omega over catalyst original:
-more stable
-better IQ
-tweaked for better performance (remember performance doenst always mean more fps)
-lots of apps to be used
-tools for tweak, overclock and softmod swapers
-smaller installation file size

disadvantages:
-it always shows "(Omega version)" after the name of the card "Radeon 9800 (Omega 2.5.58b)"
-Omegadude takes always a few days after the official Catalyst to release (but it can take as an advantage as u can be sure he tested everything before releasing

edit2: omegas are my favorite, and next the Unian drivers, sipirit are said to be faster but i have seen many errors on 3dmark as well as on games (farcry looks ugly with some gliches), forsage are just drivers to be smaller on filesize to download and have no softmods or many tweaks to be seen, dnas have had many issues in the past and not just rumors (in one installation of this i got many troubles and not even windows system restore could do anything), ngo's i cannot say anything, never tried 'em and i dont want to know as NGO is working with omega on his drivers.

Yes, I saw these gliches too but only when I used the bad softmod version : 9800Pro > 9800XT instead of 9800SE > 9800Pro. After I understood my mistake, I got very good quality and speed. It's writen in the Spirit readme file (yeah...French) that The 9800 > 9800XT softmd doesn't work on all the 9800 cards (only on those sold as 9800 but using the R360 (9800XT) core).

My best reply : test them to make your own opinion... for me, they are different but both are very good and depending on the builds I use one or the other...
For Sidenote, If you decide to try Spirit, don't use the 1.4 or 1.4.1 versions, they are based on cat 4.9 beta (with integrated softmod) and they could be instable. Use the Spirit 1.3 instead.

Well it was rumored that the 4.8's were supposed to be released thursday. I suspect we should see them soon though.

I usually use ATi's latest driver until omega has his version released.
