Slow Internet In Linux

I'm using mandrake Linux 10.0, and I've tried both Mozilla and Konqurer, both are loading pages much much slower than they do when I am using windows. Is this just how linux is or is there a way to make it go faster?

Linux should be the same speed as in Windows, that is if it's configured correctly.

I'm guessing you used the Mandrake internet wizard?? btw, what type of internet and internet card do you have?

It's been awhile since I touched Mandrake. All I remember was that the automatic configuration did squat for me....

Mandrake should come with a program called netconf....that program will help you alot with setting up IP and DNS addresses, because I'm guessing the autodetect didn't pick those up

It could be that mandrake didnt configure itself correctly for the net or for top speed. I'm running Fedore Core 2 and the internet runs faster on linux then on windows for me.

Opening web pages in Firefox or Konqueror on Linux should not be slower than opening web pages in IE or Firefox on Windows. I recommend you compare Firefox/Windows with Firefox/Linux; if the speed is noticeable slower, something is wrong with your Linux installation. (For technical reasons, IE startup time is very fast compared to other browsers - this is because IE is preloaded during system startup)
