a FREE batch ID3 tagger?
i googled but couldn't find one for free. any recommendations? sometimes i "get" CDs
(no seriously, i get them. legal FLACs of recorded concerts, i.e. Primus ones) and the file names are alright (and maybe not...). all i want is a thing like Irfanview for example---i put the files in order, put in the artist, trackname, and album and it fills that all in plus track number (or yay, a bonus..autodetects it!). i dont know if such a program exists...but if you can point me to some freeware (or perhaps shareware...so i can try it out) i'd appreciate it edit: an Ogg tagger would be nice too. sometimes i have to convert these fan-recorded concerts (3 CDs of FLAC) into ogg and manually.....rename....every......song.......

I use WMP9. It looks it up automatically as soon as it sees it in my My Music folder.

wow, i like MP3 tag studio. that thing even has built in shell commands, so after i tag the CD based on the (for example) <artist> - <album> - <tracknr> - <title> i can just do a right click to rename it to <artist> - <title> .....awesome
![]() btw flare: i HATE wm9's tagging. in fact, back on my old hard drive (before it died) with all my old music, it really really ****ed up my music tags badly. it set all my untagged files so that artist was blank and the title was just the filename....man that was hell fixing those

Yep, Foobar 2000 has a nice masstagger. It can be a bit confusing at first, but it works really well. Plus, it works on almost any file format.

i use MP3 Book Helper. it's an open source utility that's really really useful, even grabs info from freedb to name the id3 tags and the same info can be used to batch rename the mp3 files.
it even generates winamp playlists
