*sigh* Will my computer ever stop tormenting me
? My cable modem died, so I bought a new one. I connected it, and changed nothing at all, the only difference was the modem. I now find out that it will NOT give me a valid IP address. I've tried removing the adapter driver, removing my network settings and putting them back, going to a command prompt to release and renew my IP address, and I STILL get the exact same address: 192.168.100.50, which is obviously not a valid IP address for internet connection. I've tried using the modem with my PS2, and it connected just fine, so I don't think there is a problem with it. Any ideas? I'm in the dark again :/.

Call your cable provider. They have to authorize each modem by serial number. They recognize it probably by MAC address, so if you can change your new modem's MAC to your old MAC, you can possibly even get away with not changing it.

I called my provider and asked them about it. That doesn't seem to make sense though. I was able to connect through my modem just fine on my PS2, yet my computer refuses. They were both using the same configuration, but only the PS2 connected. If it's the modem that needs to be verified, why would my PS2 connect
?Edit: Nevermind. The PS2 passed the connection test, but it won't actually connect . Also, when I called my provider, they said I can only use their modem. Don't they all have certain standards, why can I only use theirs? Maybe they're just being ****s.
