Converting to Longhorn?

I hope this isn't against the rules. But I was thinking of looking at the latest Longhorn Beta. I was wondering if anyone done this and what is involved, and if you can uninstall it later. I am just curious to see how it's going. And I am very bored.

So can anyone suggest anything to me or tell me if it's worth it. I am just doing this for fun.

Are you talking about the new 64 bit beta? Doesn't that only work with athlon 64s?

Having been a MS beta tester before (windows ME) The only way you could uninstall is to install it to a second partition. Also be advised that since it is a Beta most drivers are not supported and may not work at all yet...As for Longhorn itself, Personally, I would stay far away from it. Form what I have heard there are a lot of things in there that most users wouldn't mind or know the difference, but if you have roms and stuff, it may or may not operate them. It is designed to not allow playback of illegal content of any kind. That is my understanding anyway.. Knowing MS and having worked for them more recently AND having seen a few internal documents, I do not doubt this to be true at all....But thats a different topic....

No just the new build for norma 32bit ones.

I see dpence. About the illegal content, what right do they have choosing whether or not ca run ROMS and whatnot. If thats true, I'm sure there would be alot of controversy to come for that.

Anyways hmmm seems like alot of work to do just to fool around. I think I'll just stick to XP.

NNo "if" about it. The "protection" (aka 'the ultimate spyware') is a founding principle of longhorn, which is why I for one will never go near the PoS. For more info on it, click my sig or this link http://www.againsttcpa.com/tcpa-faq-en.html

I used to work at MS, and thus I beta tested a ton of things (including Windows 2000 and XP). Based on that experience, I suggest you stay away from beta OSes until they reach "Release Candidate" status. Those tend to be quite stable.

Yeah, with the way things are going, XP may end up being the definitive windows OS. Once (and if) Palladium, TCPA, etc come into play, computers will start becoming crippled, expensive, and all in all worthless to anyone who wants control of their PC.

Is Longhorn in Beta already? I thought it was still in Alpha?

I agree, but let's not make any decisions yet until the Final version is out.

I read that article, and all I can say is that I doubt it will happen. For this to be implemented would be insane. Your computer just wouldn't be yours anymore, and I couldn't stand that.

That's the only reason I use a computer. I use one because it does what I tell it to do, it doesn't mess with my stuff, and I don't have some creepy a$$ motherfvcker breathing down my neck everytime I open up Winamp, VirtualDub, ZSNES, or any other program I enjoy using.

I'm not too worried, though. If this is implemented, the Chinese will all of a sudden have a huge import market, I think.

If it is implumented, someone will come up with a hack or work around.
There is no way that people will just stand by and let this happen.

Original topic was illegal to begin with. Esturk was right. Longhorn is still in alpha and there's no way you could possibly obtain it in a legal manner. Thus, I'm closing this thread. It's starting to go off topic, anyway.
