How about WMV to VCD?
I read the other thread about ripping DVDs (heheh you guys...)
But I'm just interested in converting WMV to VCD, so that I can watch them on my TV with my DVD/VCD player. TMPG doesn't like Media 9 formats? for some reason it crashes when I open a WMV? Does Windows Movie Maker do anything useful? I know it can change quality settings, but can it save videos to another format (mpg? heh) that works better for converting to VCD? Anything else I can use? I'm a noob when it comes to this conversion stuff.

Try reinstalling the Media player codecs.
I use tmpg to do the convertion WMV to mpeg-2, and it works great.

Me too. As a matter of fact I jus did one 2 dfays ago. But one tip is to do the sound seperately in irtual Dub and add it in tmpg later. ![]() Anyways I would agree with Kabuto. Make sure WMP9 is installed correctly and all your codecs. You may also want to download TMPG Encoder again just incase.

No your right. I forgot about that. Well tmpg encoder isnt too great for sound when dealing with long files it seems. Is there another program that can extract WMV audio?

ok, I tried a few more wmv files
some files work, some don't. The ones that work have something like MPEG4 encoding and the ones that don't work have wmv encoding. They're all wmv files, I just look at their properties in mplayer any clues about the different encoding methods in a wmv file?

So what?
Thats like Decrypting DVD's. I mean IMO you bought it, so you can do whatever you like with it, as long as your not making money off it, or giving it to others. Like if you wanna convert your Paid for DVD and watch it on your Pocket PC waht the hell is wrong with that, or make a backup of your DVD's ![]() Sometimes companies get too far and don't think logically.

mmm, ok more noob question
first i still dont know how to tell which files work which dont, but lets forget that and move on to the ones that work for me. TMPGEnc creates a mpg file So, what's next? I heard about VCDImage, but haven't tried it. Anything else I can use?
