rundll32.exe "Not Responding"/Freezes often on Windows XP Home Edition Start up?

Often times lately, I've noticed when I boot up, Windows XP(the desktop) freezes, and I can move my mouse although it's stuck on the houseglass icon. I can't click anything, and I have to hit ALT CTRL DEL to open up the Task Manager to restart. When I do ask it to restart, it always either has "rundll32.exe" or "explorer.exe" not responding, sometimes both stop responding. This is pretty annoying, as 2 out of 3 times I have to boot 2 times or more for Windows to boot up normally. Then, often times when I shut down the PC, the same 2 damn .exe files don't respond and I get the "End Now?" box or whatever. This is really frustrating.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you're into registry editting (Critical stuff, be careful), go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run

Clear out the unwanted entries from there. A website like http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php shows what they do, and if the files not listed there, chances are you should get rid of it. After this reboot.

Try running Adaware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com) and Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.com), making sure the latest definitions are loaded. Spybot's auto-updater has been iffy lately, so you might just want to download the update files from the website.

Most rundll errors are due to a badly written .dll file, most of those are IE (and explorer) hijacks, so this is probably where you error is.
